TerraStar Positioning for Dredging Operations

DEME, Belgium, has commissioned TerraStar GNSS’s TerraStar-D Precise Point Positioning (PPP) service to support the worldwide near-shore operations of its multifunctional fleet of dredgers and auxiliary vessels.

Operating in conjunction with Septentrio AsteRx2eL GNSS positioning and AsteRx2eH heading receivers, the TerraStar-D service will provide DEME’s vessel fleet with seamless high-precision decimetre-level accuracies using a combination of GPS and Glonass satellites to ensure faster levels of convergence and high update rates in the most demanding environments. Selection of the specialist service follows extensive trials under the auspices of DEME’s Survey Department during which recurring real-time accuracies were also shown to be possible in remote locations without the need for reference stations, or when reduced set-up time is critical.

Developed by Aberdeen-based TerraStar GNSS, the TerraStar-D PPP high-precision service is supported by a proprietary global network of over 80 GNSS reference stations together with two independent, fully-redundant network control centres to ensure year-round 24-hour reliable coverage. A comparable metre-level terrestrial service using enabled Septentrio and Altus Positioning receivers, TerraStar M, is also available.
