Training & Demonstration Programme at Ocean Business 2017

The training and demonstration programme is one of the biggest attractions to Ocean Business. This year, the organisers are unveiling a packed programme for the 2017 event, which is taking place at the National Oceanography Centre in Southampton, UK, from 4-6 April 2017. According to Cheri Arvonio, event manager, the programme includes over 180 hours of free training and demonstrations, enabling customers to try out the latest technologies in real-life environments. Whether in a test tank, in classrooms, on the dockside waters or on board vessels, the demonstrations truly bring the technologies to life!

Advances in Underwater Mapping

The training and demonstration programme at this year's show reflects some advances in underwater mapping and imaging technologies, as well as autonomous vehicles. Companies such as Teledyne and Sonardyne International will be demonstrating developments in mapping and imaging, with Sonardyne exploring the potential of mobile mapping and Teledyne demonstrating its portable 3D imaging sonar and multibeam echosounding technologies, along with sessions about the latest trends in data processing and analysis.

Unmanned Autonomous Vehicles Demonstrations

Sessions held in the dockside waters will demonstrate some of the latest advances in autonomous vehicles with ASV Global demonstrating how to execute advance autonomous operations at sea and Rockland Scientific demonstrating the LAMTOV (Light Autonomous Microstructure Turbulence Observation Vehicle).

Other interesting sessions include Planet Ocean introducing the ecoSUB range of innovative, low cost, micro AUVs demonstrating how this disruptive technology can change the way ocean data is gathered; Liquid Robotics presenting how USVs have a natural role in the ‘Digital Ocean’, linking acoustic communications of the subsea with the radio communications of air and space to enable new capabilities and Seafloor Systems demonstrating their EchoBoat-ASV, a 2-man portable, customised vehicle, featuring multibeam sonar integrated with INS/GNSS and real-time SVP.

In addition to more than 340 international exhibitors and 180 hours of training and demonstration sessions all free to attend, many of the exhibitors bring their own vessels to Ocean Business and moor them alongside the show in the dockside waters to demonstrate their latest equipment.

The full programme is available online.

Training and demonstration sessions are on a first come, first served basis, so visitors are advised to beat the queues onsite and register for free online in advance.
