TRDI Supports Community AUV Event

Teledyne RD Instruments, USA, is a co-sponsor in the 18th annual international RoboSub AUV competition, a STEM event held in San Diego and open to the community at no cost. The competition will be held from 20-26 July 2015 at SSC Pacific TRANSDEC in San Diego, California.

Co-sponsoring as part of the Teledyne Marine group of companies, Teledyne RD Instruments has been sponsoring this event for more than a decade. Along with co-sponsoring the event, the company is also the Doppler velocity log (DVL) supplier of choice for several teams competing this year.

Harry Maxfield, vice president of sales and marketing at Teledyne RD Instruments values giving back to the student engineering community and co-sponsoring this competition has been rewarding for the organisation.

Experience for Students

Presented by the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International Foundation (AUVSI), the competition is open to high school students and college teams from around the world. According to the official rules of RoboSub 2015, the goal of the competition is to “provide opportunities for students to experience the challenges of system engineering, to develop skills in accomplishing realistic missions with autonomous vehicles and to foster relationships between young engineers and the organizations developing and producing autonomous vehicle technologies.”

Other Teledyne Marine companies co-sponsoring the event include Teledyne Impulse, as well as Teledyne SeaBotix, which will be hosting an on-site Thruster Pit Stop where they will service and repair thrusters for competing teams. Additionally, all five winning teams in last year’s competition were powered by Teledyne SeaBotix thrusters.
