Trenching UK Power Cable

In a milestone for the development of UK Renewable Offshore Power Generation, a sub-sea plough designed and built by The Engineering Business Ltd (EB) is currently trenching power export cables for the North Hoyle offshore wind farm. Two submarine export cables will be used to bring electricity generated by the turbines to shore and allow grid connection of the UK’s first large-scale offshore wind farm. Economical and effective installation and protection of submarine power cables is critical to the success of offshore wind farms. EB engineers have been designing and building sub-sea trenching machines for over twenty five years but this is the first time an EB cable plough has been used in this application. The plough, owned and operated by Cns Subsea Limited, will be used to plough in the cable right up to the sea wall, ensuring the same high degree of protection along the entire cable route.
