Type Approval for MBB-S
The Maritime Black Box-S (MBB-S), Kongsberg Maritime's flexible S-VDR solution, has received full DnV Type Approval status, following approval of the 'float free' PSU (protected Storage Unit) option in September 2005. With DnV approval for the 'fixed' PSU option received in February 2005, the MBB-S is now a fully approved S-VDR solution with a choice of PSU type. The MBB-S is an S-VDR solution designed for vessels built before 1st July 2002 that under IMO regulations are required to retrofit S-VDR equipment. The system is based on Kongsberg Maritime's full VDR system (MBB) and provides functionality for training and reporting, in addition to the core remit of incident/accident data recording. A choice of fixed or float-free PSU options, both fully Type Approved, means the MBB-S provides flexibility for different vessel types and configuration. This flexibility is extended with a choice of installation packages. Kongsberg Maritime engineers can provide Turn-key Installation or help and assistance for a Guided Installation. Alternatively a Fleet Agreement provides full S-VDR installation training, enabling client engineers to retrofit entire fleets.
