UKHO Announces Its New National Hydrographer

The UK Hydrographic Office has appointed Rear Admiral Ian Moncrieff BA as the UK National Hydrographer, Deputy Chief Executive (Hydrography), based in Taunton, Somerset. This new appointment reports to the Chief Executive and will be integral in spearheading the key role the UKHO plays in working with the International Hydrographic Community and discharging the UK Government’s responsibilities for the Maritime and Coastguard Agency under the UN Convention of Safety of Life at Sea. Ian Moncrieff graduated in Geography and Geology at Keele University in 1977. He joined the Royal Navy on a university cadetship in 1976 and comes to the UKHO with a long and distinguished Naval background. Qualified as a Principal Warfare Officer (PWO) originally specialising in Communications, he has accumulated over 20 years operational seagoing experience in nine warships.Ian is a member of the Honourable Company of Master Mariners and the Institute of Directors. He will take up his appointment on 5th December 2006.
