US Navy Prowler Recovered

Phoenix International, Inc. has completed a mission to locate and recover a US Navy EA6B aircraft from 58msw in the Persian Gulf. The aircraft was lost while conducting flight operations last summer.
Under the direction of the Office of the USN Supervisor of Salvage, a Phoenix search and recovery team reported aboard USNS CATAWBA (T-ATF 168) in September 2003 to initiate shipboard installation of equipment. The team then deployed a Navy Centurion shallow-water side-scan sonar search system to methodically
cover the initial search area. By mid-September a scattered debris field had been identified within the area and after comprehensive mapping of all potential objects of interest the USNS CATAWBA anchored over the debris field, deploying an ROV, Deep Drone, to identify and recover specific components of the aircraft.
Portions of both engines, along with other essential pieces of the aircraft, were rigged and retrieved using ROV through-frame and manipulator recovery techniques, meeting all the salvage requirements.
