Wave and Tidal Technology Symposium

Wave and Tidal Energy is high up the political agenda. The Scottish Executive is determined to extend additional support to the sector. The £50m Marine Renewables Deployment Fund is now open for business, and the consultation period for the Marine Bill has just closed. The Carbon Trust concludes that suggests that wave and tidal energy has the capability to meet 3% of the UK electricity demand by 2020 - a dramatic expansion for a sector currently moving into the pre-commercial demonstration phase. This year's Wave and Tidal Technology Symposium on 13 July, will give delegates insight into how the current consenting process fits in with the proposed Bill. Giles Siburn of the DTI will be speaking about how marine renewables can move onto the next stage of commercialisation. Richard Mellish of the DTI will be speaking about the concept of marine spatial planning. The Right Hon Peter Hain, Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, will be giving a keynote address where we expect he will amongst other matters speak about the recently established 1 MW SeaGen tidal energy turbine in Northern Ireland's Strangford Lough. Charles Hendry MP will present the conservative vision for marine renewables.
