World ECDIS Day 2025 presents UKHO as official supporter

World ECDIS Day will return on 17 September 2025 at the International Maritime Museum in Hamburg, bringing the global e-navigation community together once again. This year’s edition, themed From Data to Decision: Embracing the S-100 Standard, highlights a defining stage in the digital navigation journey. The UK Hydrographic Office (UKHO) joins as an official supporter, adding its voice and expertise to the international conversation on transitioning to S-100.

Since 2015, World ECDIS Day has established itself as a key meeting point for maritime professionals to exchange knowledge, spark innovation and chart the future of e-navigation. The 2025 gathering will shine a spotlight on the S-100 standard – a next-generation framework poised to transform the way in which navigational data is shared, integrated and applied across the maritime sector.

Phased introduction of S-100 data services

Stephan Dimke, general manager of ChartWorld Group and host of World ECDIS Day, commented: “We are pleased to welcome the UKHO as a strategic supporter for this year’s event. Their expertise in shaping the S-100 landscape is invaluable, and their participation highlights the importance of collaboration in navigating the future of maritime safety and efficiency.”

As part of the agenda, the UKHO will deliver a dedicated presentation exploring how the maritime community can prepare for the phased introduction of S-100 data services and ECDIS capabilities, drawing on recent sea trials and collaborative initiatives with OEMs, hydrographic offices and defence and international bodies.

Collective journey

Matthew Garland, technical relationships manager at the UKHO, added: “World ECDIS Day is a valuable platform to share insights with the key stakeholders shaping the future of navigation. The transition to S-100 is a collective journey, and by sharing practical insights and encouraging dialogue, we can help ensure the maritime community is well prepared for the benefits and challenges ahead.”

Later in the afternoon, the UKHO will also participate in a panel discussion alongside representatives from Teledyne CARIS, Primar and SevenCs, offering a multiperspective view on the practical implementation of S-100 and its implications for mariners, OEMs and hydrographic offices.

The event promises a busy agenda of keynotes, networking and technology showcases, including the premiere of a new S-100 ECDIS solution.
