Comparison of Directional Wave Parameters
Since July 2004 the author has been routinely measuring waves 10km offshore Savannah, Georgia, at a site with mean water depth of 13m, using a Triaxys wave buoy (see wavebuoy.gtsav.gatech.edu). This report summarises a comparison of directional wave parameters from the buoy and 1,200kHz RD Instruments Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) equipped with pressure transducer and waves firmware. The ADCP was deployed beside the wave buoy, resulting in 72 days of comparative simultaneous hourly measurements of directional wave-energy spectra from the two systems. DANTE Buoy Controller System Delivers Live Data

The University of Washington (Seattle, USA) recently deployed an oceanographic observing buoy featuring Soundnine Inc.’s DANTE System. The DANTE controller collects data from a suite of meteorological and oceanographic instruments.  Two sensors are 60 feet underwater and use S9’s Ulti-modem inductive modem to communicate with the controller on the surface. ADCP Buoy and Float Manufacturing Relaunched

DeepWater Buoyancy, USA, has relaunched the oceanography/marine measurements line of syntactic foam ADCP buoys, StableMoor floats and trawl resistant bottom mounts (TRBMs) formerly manufactured by Flotation Technologies (Flotec). When Flotation Technologies’ parent company chose to discontinue the manufacture of this line of oceanographic flotation, DeepWater Buoyancy stepped in to take it over, continuing to supply flotation products to the oceanographic community. OSIL Installs Buoy Network in UAE

Ocean Scientific International Ltd. (OSIL) has installed a network of eight monitoring buoys off the coast of Abu Dhabi, UAE, in support of environmental monitoring. The rugged 1.2m coastal buoys are equipped with multiparameter sondes for water-quality monitoring plus GPRS telemetry equipment. The buoys are installed in water depths ranging from 6m to 16m, in various locations along the UAE coastline amid extensive coral formations and seagrass beds. TRIAXYS Wave Buoy Supports Wave Energy

A TRIAXYS Directional wave buoy was recently deployed in 50 metre waters off the west coast of Norway. This buoy will support a major EU renewable energy company in their wave energy site assessments, with the eventual goal to provide marine energy plants along various locations off Norway's coast.     This buoy replaces a competitor's buoy and was chosen based on its ability to survive extreme weather conditions and high latitudes while using little power. Polyethylene Tsunami Data Buoy for Japan

The data buoy, which has been in development for the past 3 years, is designed to detect potential tsunamis and warn the authorities by data transmitted ashore via radio and an Iridium satellite communication system. Fastwave (Australia) has commercially released the Voyager satellite tracking buoy, after an extended period of development and testing. The Voyager provides near-real-time ocean current, sea surface temperature and oil spill tracking data via Iridium satellite telemetry. Wave Monitoring Buoy Deployed off Mauritius

Wave energy developer Carnegie Wave Energy Limited has successfully deployed and commissioned a wave monitoring buoy off the south coast of Mauritius. The project was carried out in conjunction with its Mauritian Project partners: The Mauritian Research Council (MRC), Australia’s High Commissioner to Mauritius and the University of Western Australia. Lucky 13 for TRIAXYS Buoy Network

AXYS Technologies, Inc. (AXYS) of Sidney, Canada is pleased to announce that the TRIAXYS Directional Wave Buoy network in Spain is about to expand to thirteen operational stations.
