HarbourMan Trials

Ilex Computing is currently concluding trials of its new HarbourMan survey software with Kings Lynn Port & Conservancy Trust. The software runs on a laptop computer, which is easily transported between pilot cutter, tug and office. It simplifies and automates routine harbour bathy-survey obligations by providing a low-cost PC-based package for the acquisition, processing and contouring of bathy data. Acquisition to report time is reduced by providing a graphical editor and automating many tasks such as sounding selection. NavCom GPS Supported by FieldWorks Software

NavCom Technology, Inc. high-precision StarFire and Real Time Kinematic (RTK) GPS receivers are now fully supported by XYZworks FieldWorks field data collection software. StarFire receivers provide the decimeter accuracy of the satellite-based StarFire GPS augmentation network on a world-wide basis, without the need for local base stations. ALIVE: Successful Sea Trials

Following a series of tank and shallow water tests last summer, sea trials of ALIVE have successfully been performed in real conditions offshore the French Riviera. The objective was for ALIVE to dock on a subsea structure (ROV-panel) autonomously and carry out pre-programmed operations, opening and closing valves with its hydraulic manipulating arm. Target approach, docking on the subsea structure and manipulation are controlled via a sophisticated on-board video and sonar image processing, matched with a CAD (Computer-Aided Design) image of the environment. Thales Tool for ArcGIS Users

Thales GeoSolutions (Pacific) has introduced a new export utility, DXF Page Exporter, providing ESRI ArcGIS users with the ability to export a map frame or a page layout as a DXF file. In addition to enabling Geographic Information System (GIS) users to export data to DXF files, DXF Page Exporter now allows the export of a map to a DXF file at the same time, preserving the map symbology. CIS Extends RADARSAT-1 Contract

The Canadian Ice Service (CIS) has awarded RADAR-SAT-1 with another one-year contract for the supply of data for its ice-chart mapping services. With this contract, valued at CAD $1.1 million, the CIS again solidifies the continued use of RADARSAT-1 images for monitoring and mapping the movement of ice in Canadian waters. Once RSI provides the RADARSAT-1 scenes to the CIS, sometimes as many as ten images a day, personnel extract information on ice condition and location to create detailed ice charts that are electronically sent to workstations on-board marine vessels.
