Ultra High Accuracy Mini Sensor

Valeport introduces a high accuracy 0.01% pressure sensor, to be fitted to all new Midas based products, and launches the compact and user-friendly Midas SVX2. The Midas SVX2 is a smaller scale version of Valeport's best-selling Midas SVX combined CTD and sound velocity probe, which is favoured by survey companies, military users, through to research organisations. The Midas SVX2 provides an all-encompassing solution for those faced with the need for real time sound velocity data from an SVP using digital 'time of flight', but who also require the salinity and density data from a CTD. Valeport’s new ±0.01% pressure sensor... (read more)

AML Moving Vessel Profiler to Augment NSCC’s Seafloor Mapping Work

A newly acquired AML Moving Vessel Profiler (MVP) will help Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC) develop improved methods of mapping the seafloor. With its ability to conduct real-time, vertical profiles continuously and automatically, the MVP200 is expected to improve the efficiency and quality of data collection. Looking to add ground-truthing to the process of multibeam data acquisition, AML and NSCC are working together to integrate lights and a high-resolution camera to the tow body that houses the underway profiling system’s sound velocity (SV), conductivity-temperature-depth (CTD), or multiparameter instrumentation. Ground-truthing is a critical step in validating the seafloor characteristics for interpretation of... (read more)

Overnight Delivery Secures Profiler Order

AML Oceanographic (Canada) has supplied a CTD instrument to the vessel MS Tûranor PlanetSolar for use in oceanographic research. AML was able to deliver a calibrated Minos•X CTD vertical profiler in less than 24 hours while the vessel was docked in Halifax, Canada. The fast delivery made the difference. AML's Xchange field-swappable sensor heads mean that instruments can be configured in the field to meet the specific requirements of the application at hand. Such an approach also allows AML to expedite delivery of instrument orders by drawing tested instruments from stock and configuring them to meet application-specific requirements. MS Tûranor... Teledyne Webb Research Prepares APEX for the Future

Teledyne Webb Research has released the APF-11 controller and firmware as the new core of the Autonomous Profiling Explorer (APEX). With nearly 8,000 floats deployed during the past 16 years, APEX has long been the workhorse of the Argo Programme monitoring temperature and salinity in the upper 2,000 metres of the world’s oceans. Teledyne engineers designed the new controller and firmware to ensure APEX continues in that role for years to come. Recent Argo Programme expansion to monitor upper ocean biogeochemical and optical properties carries the requirement for additional sensors. APF-11 meets this need by accommodating up to eight sensors,... (read more)
