Calibration of Hydrographic Instruments

The MacArtney Group has started a calibration and maintenance service for oceanographic and hydrographic intruments: CTD probes, sound velocity sensors, current sensors, laser particle analysers, nutrient analysers and the repair of probes. Autonomous Seabed Transponder Calibration

ASV’s C-Worker 6 successfully carried out a seabed transponder calibration in 1,300m-deep waters. The sea trials, which took place in the Gulf of Mexico, were conducted in rough conditions with 2.5m waves. ASV technical sales manager Brian Anderson said that this unmanned capability could save the oil and gas industry millions of dollars. Echo Sounder Calibration Tool

HydroBar is a hydrographic tool for calibrating survey echo sounders during field surveys. A real-time sound velocimeter is combined with a sonar target (‘bar’) and Windows-based software which can run on a PC in the background of Hypack, HydroPro or other hydrographic software. In CAST (Profile) mode, an integral depth sensor enables the HydroBar to display and record sound velocity and temperature vs. depth. OSIL's Dynamic Calibration Laboratory Well Used

OSIL are now responsible for the calibration of over one thousand instruments in their dynamic, high precision calibration laboratory. The regular calibration of monitoring instruments is required to ensure that the instrument is working within the manufacturer's specification and providing the highest quality data possible. ECDIS Display Repair and Calibration Authorisation

Sperry Marine North American Support Center in Harvey (LA, USA) is now authorised to perform Level III repair and calibration of Hatteland flat-screen monitors for electronic chart display and information systems (ECDIS).   The Level III certification means that the Sperry Marine facility can now perform ECDIS calibration requirements mandated by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) for the Hatteland products. Teledyne CARIS has released HIPS and SIPS 10.4. This version introduces the first commercial release of CIDCO’s Automatic Boresight Calibration tool, providing a systematic approach to calibration as an alternative to the traditional, manual patch test. Borrowing adjustment techniques from the Lidar industry, the Multibeam-IMU Automatic Calibration (MIBAC) algorithm developed by CIDCO is now available in HIPS. Digital Hydrophone Calibration Lab Officially Opened

A new digital hydrophone calibration lab has been commissioned at the Ocean Sonics office in Great Village, NS, Canada. The traditional analogue approach to calibrating hydrophones is a tricky and demanding task. Digital hydrophone calibration greatly simplifies the calibration process. The separate wood-framed lab sits above the ground to isolate it acoustically. A Faraday cage shields instruments from electromagnetic radiation that could interfere with low signal measurement. Ashtead Technology Invests in Calibration Laboratories

Subsea equipment rental company Ashtead Technology, UK, has made an investment in order to operate established equipment calibration facilities in all its office locations. In addition to the standard range of product calibration services, the Singapore and Aberdeen branches offer the ability to calibrate depth, temperature, conductivity and sound velocity equipment to manufacturers' standards. These calibration facilities have been audited and approved by Valeport Ltd (UK), a manufacturer of oceanographic instrumentation for the survey industry.
