Thermo Electron Launches New Software for Environmental Reporting

Thermo Electron Corporation has developed a new software package for environmental reporting, EnviroLab Forms. Designed to complement Thermo’s Finnigan DSQ GC/MS family of single quadrupole mass spectrometers, Envirolab Forms is a user-friendly program and gives environmental laboratories a choice of ten reporting formats. Specifically written for the EPA methods performed on Finnigan GC/MS systems, EnviroLab Forms is a new, layered application that can be applied to data from Xcalibur 1.3 and above. Ten different automated reports can be generated giving the environmental analyst increased confidence in the results, which comply with preset published criteria. Unique to EnviroLab Forms are the... (read more)

HYSWEEP Multi-beam Training Course

Swathe Services has teamed up with HYPACK to offer a 'hands on' practical multi-beam training course designed to cover equipment installation, integration and calibration through to data acquisition and post processing. The event is scheduled from 16-20 November 2015, taking place in Truro, UK. This 5-day course is designed to take surveyors with relatively little experience and get them up to speed on best practice, do’s and don’ts and how to avoid typical pitfalls. Training will be conducted by Joe Burnett from Hypack, Adrian Gibbons from Applanix and James Williams from Swathe Services. Shore based training will be conducted in... (read more)

SBG +Services: Full Set of Technical Services around Inertial Sensors

SBG Systems has added to its catalogue a full set of technical services called the SBG +Services. Dedicated to surveyors as well as integrators, these services increase productivity by enhancing utilisation efficiency and bringing clever solutions to daily project challenges. Choosing an inertial sensor is more than matching technical specifications. Professionals face other challenges such as training a new employee, ensure a production with a minimum interruption, or simply secure a budget during several years. To answer all these needs and even more, SBG Systems built a whole range of services: the SBG +Services. SBG Systems offers different ways to... (read more)

Peripheral Survey Sensor Guidelines

The ‘Guidelines for the management of peripheral survey sensors’ (IMCA S 021) have been developed under the direction of the International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA, UK) Offshore Survey Division management committee. The document provides guidance towards a more standardised approach to the timing of checks, verifications and calibrations, leading to more consistent maintenance practices and potentially better management of survey applications. In addition to the Executive Summary, the 24-page document includes a glossary and details of terminology used and an introduction. There is a section devoted to general considerations highlighting five main areas – testing as a function of time,... (read more)

IMCA Revises ‘Guidelines for the Use of Multibeam Echosounders for Offshore Survey’

‘Guidelines for the Use of Multibeam Echosounders for Offshore Surveys’ (IMCA S 003 Rev 2) has been extensively revised by members of the International Marine Contractors Association’s (IMCA, UK) Offshore Survey Division Management Committee, to bring it up-to-date with current technology and practice, and is now available for downloading free of charge for members and non-members alike from the IMCA website. In addition to a glossary of terminology and an introduction, there are sections on multibeam echo sounders (overview, installation and operation, transducer, navigation and attitude, motion sensor, heading, synchronised timing, offset measures, water level adjustments, and sound velocity measurements);... OSIL Sole Distributor Subsea Electronic Bottle Release System

OSIL has been appointed sole distributor of the Subsea Electronic Bottle Release System (EBRS), an userfriendly way to collect calibration samples at depths for converting to SPM (mg/l) and turbidity data. Specially designed to support the survey activities of the Environmental and Oceanographic industries, the STS Subsea Electronic Bottle Release System (EBRS) features three water bottles held in a stainless steel frame complete with an onboard pressure sensor and optional Turbidity sensor.  The electronic surface control unit allows the bottles to be fired at a known depth and a simultaneous Turbidity reading in Nephelometric Turbidity Units (NTU) can be taken.... SBG Releases Navsight Marine Solution

At this year’s Oceanology International in London, UK, SBG Systems released the Navsight Marine Solution, a full high-performance inertial navigation solution designed to make surveyors’ tasks easier in both shallow and deep water. Navsight Marine Solution integrates the latest generation of gyroscopes, accelerometers and GNSS receivers. Navsight provides high-performance motion and navigation data as well as a real-time heave accurate to 5cm. To allow surveying when wave frequencies are large or complex, the solution comes with a delayed heave feature. If higher performance is required, the surveyor can count on Qinertia, SBG’s INS/GNSS post-processing software. New calibration procedure for easy installation... (read more)
