Data Management Training Courses

OceanWise, UK, has entered into a collaboration with The Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST, UK) to develop and deliver Marine Data Awareness Training Courses in London and overseas. This collaboration combines OceanWise’s expertise as a provider of technical and management training to the International Hydrographic Organisation (IHO) through its capacity-building programme with IMarEST. The new courses, provided by OceanWise, will contribute to the continuing professional development (CPD) scheme for IMarEST members. The first course, supported by The Society for Underwater Technology (SUT), is entitled “Providing an overview of Marine Data Management throughout its Life Cycle” and will... (read more)

Workshop on Data Management

Cadcorp and OceanWise are to organise a workshop entitled 'Gaining Operational and Business Efficiencies from Effective Data Management' on Tuesday 20 November 2012 at The School of Economic Science in London, UK. This workshop aims to explore how data management best practice will lead to significant costs savings and improved operational efficiencies across the maritime domain in both the public and private sectors. The workshop will describe tools and techniques available and how these can be applied to the working environment of the participants. Existing customers will present practical examples of how Cadcorp technologies and OceanWise’s products and services are... (read more)

Marine Data Management Software

Ocean Business 2009 will see the launch of a software solution designed for the management of marine information. SeaZone's GeoTemporal software allows import, processing and presentation of marine data from multiple sources. It then creates standard formatted data so that the information can be used in different Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Previously only specialist software programs had existed and offered limited data interchange capability.   SeaZone GeoTemporal represents a second generation of software allowing the management of a wide diversity of data with greatly improved levels of interoperability. This ensures marine information can be made widely available for further use... (read more)

Source Data Management

The potential for hydrographic information in the holdings of today’s Hydrographic Offices (HOs) extends far beyond its classical use: the production of charts and nautical publications to ensure safety of navigation. Historically, HOs have collected far more data and information than has ever been published in charts and nautical publications. Since the establishment of the first Hydrographic Offices more than three centuries ago, a sensible archiving system has been sufficient for the management of source data. However, the move into the digital era and extension of the mission and objectives of HOs are changing the requirements for and possibilities of... (read more)

Marine Data Management Software

The latest version of SeaZone GeoTemporal Editor is to be released during OI2010. This software solution aims to improve and simplify the management, analysis and presentation of geographic and environmental data where time is an important component. SeaZone GeoTemporal Editor manages tide, current and wave datasets captured from Acoustic Doppler Profilers, together with other oceanographic, hydrographic and meteorological information such as water quality and wind speed data. The software allows the import of custom datasets and links to GIS and external databases, bringing a wide variety of data together for further spatial analysis and improved reporting and decision making. Many organisations... Guernsey Electricity Marine Data Management

Early in October 2003 Fugro Survey Ltd installed a ‘Marine Data Management System’ for Guernsey Electricity in the Channel Islands. This was the first installation by GeoSoft Solutions, a new department within Fugro Survey Ltd, Great Yarmouth, UK charged with developing GIS solutions for internal and external clients. GeoSoft Solutions developed the marine data management system for Guernsey Electricity such that as the operator and supplier of GuernseyÕs electricity, any incidents happening close to their power cables at sea could be monitored from their control room. Functionality embedded within the system includes the display of S57 vector data, an electronic... (read more)

Hydrographic Charting Data Management Challenges

Three years ago we discussed the global proliferation of large coastal hydrographic charting-based projects. More recently the topic was large, multi-month MBES applications on a variety of regional seabed mapping programmes ranging from oil exploration applications to multi-year seabed searches for accident investigations.  MBES and associated hydrographic charting programmes on the scale of multiple ships, multiple months and long distances from home-base have placed extreme pressures on data volumes management and moving that data to the client in an efficient, cost effective and timely manner. Added challenges include breakthroughs in the collection of water column and high density backscatter imagery,... (read more)

CARIS Bathymetric Data Management Software

CARIS has released Bathy DataBASE 2.0 for the creation and management of bathymetric surfaces. Bathy DataBASE was developed to allow hydrographers to overcome obstacles of large bathymetric data sets and data sources. The software allows users to validate, prepare and compile bathymetric data from multiple formats and sources to create products. Among some of the features of Version 2.0 are new source data management and storage tools, Subset Editor for point editing, redesigned 3D graphics display and navigation tools, and true position contouring. With ever expanding volumes of raw multibeam survey data and large numbers of archived historical data sources,... (read more)
