Subsea Data Acquisition Capabilities Extended

Building on its OceanStar system, Fastwave has recently formed a partnership with L-3 Communications to develop commercial applications for a networked underwater data acquisition system (NUDAS), integrated with the Iridium satellite system. Applications include environmental, oceanographic and subsea infrastructure data acquisition.     Since 2007, Fastwave's OceanStar system has provided near real-time data acquisition from subsea sensors via the Iridium satellite system. The system is used by major offshore energy organisations for marine environmental monitoring, operating at more than 30 sites in the remote, cyclone-prone tropical waters surrounding northern Australia.   Mike Gallagher, Managing Director of Fremantle, Australia-based L-3 Communications... Digital Data Acquisition System for CPT Operations

In the beginning of January 2006 the Dutch company A.P. van den Berg introduced a new digital data acquisition system for measuring geotechnical soil data acquired by means of the static (Dutch) Cone Penetration Testing (CPT) method. The data acquisition system offers many advantages compared to the present systems available on the market. The system consists of a measuring sensor for measuring the data in the soil and an interface for current supply and data transmission to for instance a PC or laptop. It concerns the parameters cone tip resistance (qc), friction (fs), pore-water pressure (U2) and inclination (Ix/y). A... (read more)

Fugro Completes Ghana Metocean Data Acquisition

Fugro has completed a 33-month period of metocean data acquisition for Hess Ghana Exploration. Measurements were made at three locations in an area offshore western Ghana known as the Deepwater Tano/Cape Three Points block, in water depths of approximately 2,400 metres. The data will be used by Hess in support of its operations in Ghana. A Fugro-manufactured Wavescan buoy was deployed to measure waves, currents and meteorological and seawater parameters, with real-time data displayed on a project-specific webpage that was accessed by Hess via a secure log-in. A long mooring was deployed, measuring current profiles over the complete water depth, as... (read more)

Float Network Adds Ocean Biogeochemistry Data Acquisition

There are just over 3,900 floats scattered in the oceans of the globe, to continuously measure the physical characteristics of the oceans. They integrate that information into a global database: ARGO. For over 15 years the scientific community has been collecting temperature and salinity data. In 2010, a new generation of floats, with new sensors, was set up: PROVOR CTS4. PROVOR CTS4 floats, also named PROVBIO, are equipped with biogeochemical sensors opening up new opportunities. For the floats, the sea state is not a limiting factor. At sea, as soon as the wind reaches the strength 4 or 5, measurement... (read more)

Pipeline Video Acquisition

The Triops digital video recorders is specifically designed for the pipeline inspection market; it is a 3U, triple channel video acquisition system, with 2TB of SATA drive storage that allows for the synchronous recording and storing of pipeline video from an ROV. Live view video can be displayed on the QC screen and passed through for display on the ROV monitor if required. Video overlay is also available by use of NETmc Marines Triple channel VideoTXT-3, which has up to three serial ports for data input. To supplement this product, NETmc Marine has partnered with EIVA to interface the Triops... (read more)

Seabird Seismic Acquisition Deal

Effective from midnight 20th May 2011, Spectrum has secured a significant 2D seismic acquisition capacity with Seabird for expansion of their Multi-Client library, together with a re-let agreement for Spectrum's vessel, the GGS Atlantic. As part of the continued growth of Spectrum's Multi-Client library, the company has now committed to the acquisition of 2D seismic data worth USD23 million over the next 3 years. This commitment is part of a signed frame agreement with SeaBird Exploration to draw on their extensive worldwide seismic fleet. Acquisition costs to Spectrum will be fixed at competitive market rates. This agreement will ensure an... (read more)

ScanFish ROTV Increases Data Coverage and Efficiency of Data Acquisition

Using two vessels and a wide array of oceanographic sensors, the City of San Diego, California, USA, continually inspects and reports on two wastewater outfalls: Point Loma Ocean Outfall (PLOO) near the mouth of San Diego Bay and South Bay Ocean Outfall (SBOO) near the US/Mexico border. The City of San Diego looked to the ScanFish Rocio model in EIVA’s ScanFish remotely operated towed vehicle (ROTV) product line as a means of increasing data coverage and quality while at the same time decreasing vessel time. The water quality component of the traditional monitoring surveys is comprised of performing vertical casts... (read more)

Solution for Seabed Seismic Acquisition

Five months after CGGVeritas, France, and Saudi Aramco, Saudi Arabia, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for collaborative research and the development of geophysical acquisition, processing, analysis and interpretation technologies, the two companies have entered into a collaboration to conduct a major joint R&D project, known as SpiceRack, intended to herald a robotised solution for seabed seismic acquisition. Based on the deployment of self-propelled recording nodes, this solution is expected to lead to a step-change in the efficient delivery of reservoir quality seismic data. Both companies will draw on their seismic acquisition experience and allocate resources to the SpiceRack project.... (read more)
