A new, non-profit Foundation is in the process of being formed in Holland, under the leadership of Vice Admiral Joost van Aalst (Ret.), formerly the Hydrographer of Holland. This organisation will be formed in time to provide support for a number of activities resulting from the new ECS database standard, the first of which will be qualification of auditors to perform compliance testing of the provisions for the new standard. FDIS ISO 19379 Unanimously Approved by 10 Nations

Word was received that the Final Draft International Standard (FDIS) ECS Database Standard, ISO 19379 was unanimously approved by Participating members of TC8 SC6. The Ten members voting were: Germany, Italy, Japan, DPR Korea, Republic of Korea, Netherlands, Norway, Russian Federation, United Kingdom and the United States. In addition, two Observer members, Cuba and Slovakia voted approval. Two countries, the UK and the US approved with corrections to the FDIS. Transas equips Brazilian Navy training vessel

Transas has successfully installed the Navi-Sailor 3000 ECS onboard the Brazilian Navy’s 3,168 tons training vessel ‘U-27 BRASIL’. The Navi-Sailor 3000 ECS, a Transas Marine electronic chart navigational system, will be used to support navigational activities. The equipment set onboard also comprises World Folio ZR00, worldwide chart coverage, providing the vessel with access to more than 10,000 vector charts with ports indicated worldwide. Another state-of-the-art solution installed is Navtex Manager, which is capable of automatically reading and processing Navtex messages; extracting co-ordinates, areas, transmitting station and other parameters; saving messages onto the hard disk and displaying the message mark on... US-Canada Arctic Ocean Partnership Leads to Better Data

A recent mission marked the completion of a five-year collaboration between the United States and Canada to survey the Arctic Ocean. The bilateral project collected scientific data to delineate the continental shelf beyond 200 nautical miles from the coastline, also known as the extended continental shelf (ECS). ECDIS Ltd have opened their new eNavigation Centre at Solent Business Park, where they will deliver their MCA accredited IMO 1.27 Model ECDIS course. The centre is equipped with full 23" ECDIS consoles and DNV-compliant bridge operation simulator, evaluated by the MCA as meeting the standards required by the STCW Code.
