Real-time Weather Data for Homecoming of Hawaii’s Legendary Canoe

Liquid Robotics’ Wave Gliders are participating in the historic homecoming and celebration for the Polynesian Voyaging Society’s 'Hōkūleʻa' canoe after its three-year 'Mālama Honua' voyage covering 40,000 nautical miles. On the final miles of this historic journey, Wave Gliders will provide real-time weather, environmental and navigation data for the 'Hōkūleʻa' and her sister canoes as they sail into Oʻahu, Hawaii. This data will complement the traditional art and science of Polynesian wayfinding with modern technology for enhanced knowledge and safety. The Australasian Hydrographic Society (AHS) has announced that applications are now being received for the Society’s 2020 Education Award.  The $3,500AUD award is provided to a student whose study - in the opinion of the Award Panel - best promotes hydrography and related sciences and best recognises the efforts of the student involved in the study of hydrography and related sciences. Applications are open from 1 Feb to 31 March annually. Students and Researchers Get Access to OceanWise Marine Mapping via Digimap

OceanWise’ intelligent marine mapping data is now accessible to students in Further and Higher Education across the British Isles via Digimap, the online map and data delivery service provided by EDINA, based at the University of Edinburgh. EDINA works with data partners such as Ordnance Survey, British Geological Survey, Centre for Ecology and Hydrology, Getmapping and OceanWise, to offer access to a variety of data collections for the purpose and benefit of education and research.
