Fast 3D Subsea Mobile Mapping and Contactless Metrology
Aerial mobile mapping using Lidar and GNSS-aided inertial navigation has revolutionised the efficiency of land and shallow-water bathymetric surveying. Now, fast ultra‑high resolution subsea mobile mapping is approaching. Millimetre-resolution Lidar sensors have emerged in parallel with major advances in tightly integrated subsea inertial navigation. Challenging 6G Demo

Sonardyne's 6G (Sixth Generation) acoustic positioning technology was demonstrated to industry professionals during in-water demonstrations in Stonehaven Harbour on the east coast of Scotland. For three days last week, a Long BaseLine (LBL) positioning network of six Compatt 6 transponders was set up against the walls of the harbour, in depths of as little as two metres. Dynamic Laser Scanning Set to Innovate Metrology Techniques

In December 2016, DOF Subsea (DOF) conducted a demonstration of dynamic underwater laser scanning as a replacement for traditional metrology techniques at The Underwater Centre in Fort William, Scotland. The demo showcased 2G Robotics’ and Sonardyne’s complete dynamic survey solution. The solution integrates 2G Robotics’ underwater laser scanner, the ULS-500 PRO, with Sonardyne’s inertial navigation sensor, SPRINT; Syrinx DVL and 6G acoustics. UK-based Nautronix has been awarded a contract to supply NASDrill RS925 deepwater acoustic positioning system for Rowan’s new ultra-deepwater drillships. GAS to Provide Survey Services during Pipelay Installation

GAS (Geological Assistance & Services), Italy, has been awarded a long-term contract from SAIPEM to provide offshore survey services on board the dive-support vessel Akademik Tofik Ismayilov. The work will be performed during the installation of the export and infield pipelines for the Stage II development of the Shah Deniz field, which will ultimately deliver gas to Europe from Azerbaijan. The field is located 90km offshore Azerbaijan, in water depths between 75m and 550m.
