Handheld Underwater Magnetometer

A diverse group of people from marine archaeologists to commercial divers are using a new compact, hand-held magnetometer designed to locate iron and steel objects underwater.   Based in The Netherlands, DUC Diving (image) has more than 25 years experience in commercial diving operations and an established reputation for successful and timely completion of projects. The company offers a range of services in underwater work including technical support, engineering, and inspections. Last year DUC added a Fisher side-scan sonar to their extensive line of equipment in order to perform a survey operation. "We were very pleased with the sonar's performance... (read more)

Collaboration Leads to Magnetometer Solution

Cooperation between HYPACK and Marine Magnetics, USA, has resulted in a complete solution for magnetometer surveys. The solution comes in the form of an updated interface for magnetometer data collection and the release of HYPACK’s new MAGEDIT program, developed with SHOM’s specifications and collaboration. Following the purchase of a fleet of magnetometers by SHOM (French Hydrographic Department), Marine Magnetics and HYPACK, Inc. worked together to provide a solution to better acquire and process the magnetometer data. MAGEDIT was designed to allow surveyors to make adjustments to both ship and shore-based magnetometers, using the IGRF Model.  Magnetic anomalies can be computed... (read more)

Magnetometer Option for Iver2

OceanServer Technology, USA, has partnered with Marine Magnetics to bring a new magnetometer option to the Iver2 family of AUVs. This new AUV-towed device, coupled to enhanced data-logging software features, enables existing or new Iver2 AUVs to collect high-quality georeferenced magnetometer data. The Marine Magnetics Explorer is the world’s smallest, lightest, and most efficient high-sensitivity total-field magnetometer with high-resolution output at 0.02nT RMS/rt-Hz. Pairing this powerful sensor with the Iver2 AUV provides users with a powerful new survey approach for collecting magnetic data. AUVs can accurately sweep large areas at a defined height off the seabed with minimum on-site support,... (read more)

ROTV Solution for Magnetometer Surveys

A new intelligent wide-sweep ROTV ScanFish Katria solution from Danish EIVA is designed to optimise magnetometer surveys in terms of reduced operation costs and high data quality. The ScanFish Katria is designed for detection of sub-bottom magnetic anomalies. The intelligent platform allows for time-efficient magnetometer surveys, as it covers larger survey areas in one sweep through a horizontal setup of four magnetometers. By means of the terrain-following operation mode, the magnetometers are positioned as close to the seabed as the topography allows. This ensures less expensive operations and high-quality data with better indication of signal strength and origin. As the... (read more)

Self-compensating Magnetometer (SCM) System for AUVs

The OFG SCM is a robust, reliable magnetometer system that provides real-time compensated and corrected three-component magnetic data. The OFG SCM can be installed inside the hull of an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) or strapped directly to the outside of the AUV body to minimise operational risk. The OFG SCM opens up possibilities for AUV operators and AUV systems integrators to use the 3-component magnetic data for both in-mission decisions regarding magnetic anomalies (e.g. UXO, pipe and cable tracking, ship signatures, mine countermeasures) and post-mission maps (e.g. archaeology, geology, exploration, environmental and geotechnical projects). This is accomplished without the need... (read more)

Ixsea Oceano Wins ISO 9001:2000

Ixsea Oceano has been awarded ISO 9001:2000 certification by BVQI (Bureau Veritas Quality International). The certification includes engineering, sale, manufacturing and support for all Ixsea Oceano product lines (inertial navigation systems, gyrocompasses, acoustic releases, magnetometers, acoustic positioning systems) at their main plants in Brest and Marly- le-Roi. An internal quality system was already in place for engineering and production. (read more)
