China Maritime 2008 Forums

China Maritime 2008 will feature three forums on passenger vessels, world shipbuilding and waterfront/coastal development, respectively. Each will accommodate 60 participants on a first-in, best-dressed basis. In addition to these sessions, an exhibition will showcase the latest in maritime, shipping and port technology and services from around the world.   With the last China Maritime event having been a huge success, expectations for 2008 are high. Kongsberg Maritime Acquires Inturbine

Kongsberg Maritime AS, Norway, has acquired InTurbine. The Norwegian specialist renewable and wind power consultancy firm joined Kongsberg Maritime’s Merchant Marine Division in Trondheim as of 1 December 2012 to support the operations and expansion of Kongsberg Wind Farm Management. The purpose of the acquisition is to strengthen Kongsberg Maritime’s commitment to development of services and products related to the wind segment through the recently established Centre for Wind Farm Management. The organisers of the China Maritime 2006 exhibition, Baird Publications, have released details of the associated conference, forum and product presentation programme. China Maritime 2006 is to be held in the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wanchai from 28th February to 2nd March 2006. The Sea-Pax Asia Conference for owners, operators, designers and builders of and suppliers to and regulators of all kinds of passenger vessels, from water taxis to cruise liners, takes place on the Tuesday and Wednesday. OceanView Maritime Surveillance System

Vexcel Corporation in cooperation with the Center for Southeastern Tropical Advanced Remote Sensing (CSTARS) of the University of Miami (FL, USA), announced their joint development of the OceanView ocean surveillance system. OceanView provides automatic ship detection from readily available, low-cost satellite imagery for use in law enforcement at sea. Designed to operate within the processing queue of a satellite ground system, the system assigns a ship probability score to detected maritime objects based on the value of parameters it calculates for each detected object. Singapore Maritime Academy ECDIS

Transas Marine Pacific has supplied the Singapore Maritime Academy (SMA), Singapore Polytechnic with ECDIS. The equipment was supplied to the Academy’s newly developed Centre for Advance Navigation, which includes a marine simulation function. The Centre now accommodates the latest Transas Navi-Sailor Electronic Chart and Display Information System (ECDIS), as well as Navi-Trainer ship-handling simulator. The system is capable of running an operational ECDIS and providing the various functions of a desktop ship-handling simulator. Gleamray Maritime Goes Paperless

Gleamray Maritime is shifting to paperless navigation a lot earlier than ECDIS carriage requirement comes into force. Transas Hellas is to supply its type-approved Dual Navi-Sailor ECDIS, Transas Admiralty Data Service TADS which incorporates official ENCs and chart updates. Maritime Information Gaining Importance

The third session of the UN Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM) took place in Cambridge, UK, from 24 to 26 July 2013. Over 70 UN Member States were represented at the third session of UN-GGIM together with representatives from nearly 20 international organisations, including the IHO. Hamburg will be the location for the first global maritime summit of the maritime industry.
