Modelling Tool for Coastal Adaptation to Sea-level Rise

Blue Marble Geographics (USA) has been selected by the New England Environmental Finance Center (NEEFC) from the Edmund Muskie School of Policy Research at the University of Southern Maine to develop the software interface for a coastal climatic-disruption modelling tool entitled COAST. Inspection and 3D Modelling Project at Galloper Offshore Windfarm Completed

Subsea technology specialist Rovco has completed an extensive ROV inspection contract. This circa £1 million contract has resulted in the completion of the baseline asset integrity survey at the newly constructed Galloper Offshore Wind Farm, a 353MW installed capacity wind farm which lies 30km off the coast of Suffolk, UK. The project, which was awarded by Innogy Renewables UK, began in September - with 24-hour ROV operations provided over a four-week period. Monitoring of Sediment Displacement

During current pipelaying activities in German waters for the North Stream pipeline between Russia and the EU, Aqua Vision BV performed vessel-based tracking of water column characteristics in the vicinity of dredging and pipelaying activities. The measurement programme involved monitoring during two pipelaying phases: dredging and pipelaying. Combining high-resolution data collection (using Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers) and real-time plume detection software (ViSea-PDT) makes it possible to map the size and concentration of sediment plumes. The MTS/IEEE Oceans Conference has returned to Biloxi, MS (USA), for Oceans ‘09. The Mississippi Coast Coliseum and Convention Center previously hosted Oceans ‘02 in October 2002. Oceans ‘09 welcomed over 1,400 attendees, 163 exhibitors and 33 student posters from 35 different countries. In addition to hardware companies, this year’s exhibitors included local universities, government offices and military research laboratories. Discovery of MH370 Part Confirms Ocean Current Models

A part from the MH370 aeroplane feared lost in the Indian Ocean on 8 March 2014 was found recently on the island of La Réunion. According to the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) which is leading the search, this is consistent with the current underwater search area in the southern Indian Ocean where exhaustive analysis has concluded the aircraft entered the water. Drift modelling by CSIRO shows that material from the current search area could have been carried to La Réunion, among other locations.
