UTEC Completes Survey Subcontract for McDermott in the Middle East

UTEC, a global surveying company in the Acteon subsea services group, completed consecutive as-built and post-construction anchor debris clearance surveys using remotely operated vehicles (ROV) for McDermott International. The company mobilized a DP2 offshore support vessel in early December 2019 with work- and observation-class ROVs and a nearshore survey workboat for the as-built campaign. The anchor debris clearance campaign used the same vessel with a sub-bottom profiler, a side-scan sonar, a multibeam echosounder and a magnetometer. Geophysical Survey in Shallow Waters  “We are delighted to have completed these surveys,” said Nadir Rahmatullah, UTEC commercial director for Asia Pacific and the Middle East.... (read more)

How to Simplify Survey Reporting

Wouldn’t it be great to work on a hydrographic project without spending a lot of time looking for all the elements needed for a professional report? This was what Sanyal Sunil had in mind when he developed SURge, a digital tool to simplify survey reporting. Wouldn’t it be great to work on a hydrographic project without spending a lot of time looking for all the elements needed for a professional report? This was what Sanyal Sunil had in mind when he developed SURge, a digital tool to simplify survey reporting. Hydrographic survey reporting has always been a headache for surveyors in the field, as they have to spend a lot of time formatting the reports, finding the correct logos and diagrams, displaying observations schematically, and carrying out irrelevant calculations, all of which have to be neatly represented in the report but have nothing to do... Fugro Kicks Off Cable Route Site Investigation for Sofia Offshore Wind Farm

Fugro’s multipurpose vessel Fugro Pioneer left the Port of Sunderland in the UK earlier this month to kick off a six-month offshore site investigation and survey campaign for innogy’s Sofia offshore wind farm. With a consented capacity of 1.4GW, Sofia will be one of the world’s biggest offshore wind farms. Fugro will provide geophysical and geotechnical services over the project’s 220km export cable corridor, in what is believed to be one of the longest cable route surveys ever performed for an offshore wind farm, as well as further works on the wind farm array.  Subsurface Conditions The objective of Fugro’s... Remotely Controlled USV Undertakes Survey Work for Wind Farm

In a first for the offshore wind sector, a vessel remotely controlled from shore took to the sea off Suffolk (UK) over the weekend to undertake survey work for Greater Gabbard Offshore Wind Farm, a joint venture between SSE Renewables and innogy, a German energy company. The XO-450 Unmanned Surface Vessel (USV), owned and operated by UK-based XOCEAN, carried out seabed surveys on seven of the turbines at the 140-turbine wind farm, located 23 kilometres off the UK coast. The unmanned vessel is around the size of an average car (4.5 metres) and half its weight (750kg) and can be... (read more)
