Offshore AIS Network Complete

Norcontrol IT has supplied Petroleos Mexicanos Exploration (PEMEX) with a large offshore AIS network. Whilst AIS is generally considered a tool for port and coastal applications, the offshore industry can benefit from the extra data it offers. The project is located in the Bay of Campeche in the Gulf of Mexico and spans some 150 platforms throughout the entire area. Norcontrol IT has installed eight AIS base stations supplied by Kongsberg Seatex, a subsidiary of Kongsberg maritime. PEMEX is currently in the process of installing AIS transponders on supply vessels and other ships serving the oil production facilities in the... (read more)

HTMV Solutions for Offshore

One of the great challenges for cables in offshore applications is the combination of high temperatures, harsh environments and high voltages. The demands put on the materials are intense and the need for longevity in offshore doesn't make it any easier. Habia Cables’ new HTMV (High Temperature - Medium Voltage) range enables smarter and more economical solutions in different applications, such as heating cables and power cables for pipelines, pumps and ROVs. Habia Cables use fluoropolymers to attain higher temperature and chemical resistance than traditional XLPE-based insulation systems. Some of the development challenges included three layer bonding of the materials... (read more)

Offshore Vessel Personnel Transfer

Personnel transfers at sea can be a risky business. With ever-improved offshore safety in mind, it is a topic that has led to the publication of ‘Guidance on the Transfer of Personnel to and from Offshore Vessels' (IMCA SEL 025 / IMCA M 202) by the International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA). "One of the activities specific to offshore operations is the transfer of personnel between vessels and other offshore structures," explains IMCA's Chief Executive, Hugh Williams. "Such transfers can include movements of personnel at crew change and shift change from vessel to vessel and also between vessels, offshore structures, barges... (read more)
