Positioning First West African TLP

Fugro Survey BV is to undertake the crucial positioning work to install West Africa’s first Tension Leg Platform (TLP) on the Kizomba-A oilfield off Angola. The platform has to be positioned with an accuracy of less than a metre in water depths of 1180m. The contract was awarded to Fugro by Heerema Marine Contractors, which will install the TLP for the field operators. The TLP will be transported from Holland and installed at Kizomba using the float-over method to connect to pre-installed piles and tendons. MTEM Positioning Contract for Veripos

CSA International Inc, an environmental survey company working in the Gulf of Mexico, has become the first organisation in the world to purchase a new ‘calibration-free' acoustic positioning system launched by Sonardyne International Ltd. Veripos has been awarded a master services contract by Polarcus, a Dubai-based 3D seismic survey company, for supply of high-precision positioning services and equipment in support of a new advanced fleet of Ulstein-designed vessels. Australia Tests Improved National Positioning

According to Geoscience Australia, technology companies GMV, Inmarsat and Lockheed Martin have joined Australia's two-year national positioning project. The project is trialling a Satellite Based Augmentation System (SBAS) to improve the accuracy of Australia's positioning. The testing of SBAS technology in Australia offers a number of potential safety, productivity, efficiency and environmental benefits to many local industries, including transport, agriculture, construction and resources.
