Thales MV Askelad First Campaign

The Thales MV Askelad has completed her first survey campaign in the Asia Pacific region with the conclusion of an As-Built Pipeline Survey in Indonesia. The Askelad arrived in the Asia Pacific region complete with a hull-mounted swathe bathymetry and 4x4 Pinger array system, single-beam echo sounder and USBL transducer. Thales conducted the 188 km As-Built Pipeline Survey for Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. Ltd along the recently laid 28 inch gas pipeline between Kuala Tungkal and Panaran (offshore section KP25 to KP 213). Skilltrade Courses

In additiion to its ongoing standard Hydrographic and Geophysical courses, Skilltrade has significantly expanded its training capabilities with a number of courses geared at Hydrography and Marine Survey. Provision has been made for the Thales Geosolutions training courses on PDS2000 Hydrographic Survey Software. The first course took place at end of June at the Skilltrade training facility. All participants successfully completed the five-day course. Further courses are scheduled at regular intervals. In the first week of September, Skilltrade will offer the CodaOctopus CODA GeoSurvey DA Series training course aimed at geophysicists, U/W engineers, data processors and company reps. Maritech Certified for Hypack Training

The Maritech Group has recently been endorsed by Coastal Oceanographics Inc. to conduct certified training on the Hypack Max software product. Courses will be conducted at the Maritech Marine Survey & Geoscience Training Centre located at the Beacon Innovation Centre, near Gt. Yarmouth. Certification took place during the recent Hypack 2003 Seminar organised by Coastal Oceanographics Inc. and Del Norte Technology Ltd. The course covered a thorough examination of the Hypack Max hydrographic and data processing software, including an overview of the Hysweep and Dredgepack products. Subsea 7 Goes Digital

A VisualWorks digital video system has recently been installed onboard the Allseas vessel MV Trenchsetter and the MV Provider for Subsea 7, providing pipelay support surveys for a major pipelay project in the North Sea being performed by the Solitaire. The systems have been operating successfully for six weeks, providing instant digital video pictures to the online and off-line operators. New Coda Systems Ordered

CodaOctopus Ltd has made an early sale of a bundle of Coda acquisition and processing systems to Andrews Survey, a supplier of survey and positioning services for the international offshore industry. The new package belongs to the Coda GeoSurvey Productivity Suite and was assembled by CodaOctopus together with Andrews Survey. It comprises a Coda DA50 Sidescan Sonar Windows-based acquisition system, Coda Replay 200 Windows-based post-processing software, Coda GeoKit Sidescan for geophysical interpretation and Coda Mosaic, delivering very high-resolution GeoTiff output. New Magnetic Survey System

Innovatum has announced availability of a new magnetic survey system for a wide variety of applications Ð the SEARCHER system. This is a new towed array tool providing highly detailed magnetic mapping, both on land and in marine environments. ALIVE: Successful Sea Trials

Following a series of tank and shallow water tests last summer, sea trials of ALIVE have successfully been performed in real conditions offshore the French Riviera. The objective was for ALIVE to dock on a subsea structure (ROV-panel) autonomously and carry out pre-programmed operations, opening and closing valves with its hydraulic manipulating arm. Target approach, docking on the subsea structure and manipulation are controlled via a sophisticated on-board video and sonar image processing, matched with a CAD (Computer-Aided Design) image of the environment. Knudsen Echosounder for US Navy

Knudsen Engineering Ltd is to fulfil a volume order from the US Naval Oceanographic Office at the Stennis Space Center (Mississippi), including eight 320BR deepwater echosounder plus spares kits. These instruments are two-channel (3.5/12kHz), rack-mounted, high-power systems used for full ocean depth survey.
