Metoc Acquires Compass Data Systems

Metoc plc has acquired Compass Data Systems Limited, to strengthen its portfolio of marine and coastal data services. Compass Data Systems provides software and consultancy on the processing of oceanographic data, in particular that associated with advanced instrumentation such as acoustic current profilers. The acquisition will enable Metoc to offer clients the possibility of combining real-time and simulated data with other environmental and engineering data and delivering this quickly and easily across organisational networks using GIS and internet mapping technology. Radar and Tracking Research

Norcontrol IT has become the majority shareholder in Norwegian radar technology company Applied Radar Physics (ARP), which has been involved in radar technology for over 15 years and is located in the Norwegian research centre at Kjeller along with several high-profile Norwegian research organisations. ARP’s standing in international radar research was further acknowledged at the ‘Radar 2003’ conference in Australia, where the company presented a paper on radar signal processing to the world’s foremost radar researchers. Canoe-Borne Oceanography

ASL Environmental Sciences is used to unusual situations but it came across a new one with a recent request for a number of instruments from Interives, a company engaged in met-ocean studies based in Laval, Quebec. Jean-Pierre Savard of Interives needed a range of instruments (CTD, wave and current profilers, tide gauge and a weather station) for gathering data to be used for harbour development in several Inuit villages on Hudson Bay and Ungava Bay in Northern Quebec. Space Imaging Sell Ground Station to Poland

Space Imaging announced that it has signed an agreement with the Satellite Center for Regional Operations (SCOR), a commercial arm of the Polish government located in Warsaw, Poland, to establish a ground station capable of tasking, collection, processing, exploitation, and archiving of high-resolution IKONOS satellite imagery data for the Polish Ministry of Defense. The ground station will be operated by SCOR with support from the Polish Military Property Agency and Techmex, a commercial computer and technology company in Poland. Trials Success for Fusion Positioning and Telemetry System

Fusion acoustic positioning and telemetry systems from Sonardyne International Ltd, UK, have been used successfully in the Gulf of Mexico during trials conducted by a major operator. The Fusion systems were tested in conjunction with seafloor data acquisition packages that had been deployed by ROV in pre-determined locations and then acoustically commanded to record data. The trials were designed to demonstrate the quality of data that could be acquired in deep water (2,000 metres or 6,600 feet) and the efficiency of ROV deployment operations.
