MS 1000 v5 Sonar Processing Software

Kongsberg Mesotech, Canada, has announced the latest version of MS 1000 software for MS 1071 and MS 1171 Digital Scanning Sonar. MS 1000 Version 5.0 marks a major change in direction for this software. It enables no-charge software updates for all users and more specialised and productive software tools for specific user groups. The entry-level software, known as MS 1000 Express Edition, provides basic operating functions for Kongsberg Mesotech digital sonar. The Express Edition is suitable for many applications, such as obstacle avoidance for ROVs and certain imaging applications. The Express Edition does not require a software key for operation.... Dolphin Acquires Seismic Processing Software Company

Dolphin Group’s subsidiary Dolphin Geophysical Inc. (US) has purchased the entire stock of Open Geophysical Inc. (OGI). OGI develops and sells seismic processing software and has an existing client base including both major oil companies and seismic contractors. It provides users with an efficient, cost-effective and easy-to-use seismic processing platform. The newly developed software is already being used on the Polar Duchess for real-time quality control of acquired data with impressive performance and in Dolphin's new processing centre established in London, UK. All Dolphin vessels will be upgraded to the OGI software over the coming months. It will be used... (read more)

Teledyne CARIS Onboard Accelerates Data Processing

The release of Teledyne CARIS Onboard 1.1 enables users to process data in near real time, resulting in minimised data conversion and processing times. This release introduces several new processes including the incorporation of the SIPS Backscatter engine. Backscatter mosaics can be generated alongside surfaces in near real time. This version also presents the ability to compute GPS tide and to apply observed depth and attitude filters. Designed with autonomous operations in mind, CARIS Onboard will save valuable time as less interaction is needed for automated survey activities. In addition to expanding the HIPS and SIPS processes available for real-time... (read more)

QuickStitch Processing Software Powered by EIVA

The dedicated QuickStitch software package has been designed specifically for data collected with a Teledyne BlueView 3D Scanning Sonar to streamline the review, cleaning and alignment process. Developed by EIVA from the NaviModel solution, which is part of the NaviSuite software suite, QuickStitch is based on industry-proven hydrographic software. Teledyne BlueView’s underwater 3D acoustic imaging equipment is used to inspect, monitor, measure and quantify areas of interest below the surface. The 3D Scanning Sonar scan from a fixed location and produce a highly detailed point cloud centred on the scan location. To obtain data over larger areas, multiple, overlapping point... (read more)

Advancements in Area-based Imagery Processing

An Integrated Geocoder Delivers a Streamlined Workflow and New Capabilities
For many years the focus has been on collecting and processing the first bottom return of multibeam sonars. However, the acoustic backscatter acquired by multibeam sonars, as well as sidescan sonars, also carries important information about the sea floor and its physical properties. One necessary step towards this characterisation is the creation of more consistent and reliable mosaics of acoustic backscatter. To create the final backscatter map, it is necessary to carry out certain corrections on the backscatter. Following last month's interview with CARIS founder Dr Masry, here we focus on a tool that has been introduced for this purpose:... (read more)

Post-processing Solutions at Northeast Lidar Workshop

Blue Marble Geographics' Director of Product Management, Sam Knight, gave presentations at NOAA’s Northeast Regional Ocean Council’s Northeast Lidar & Sea Level Rise Impacts Workshop on 10 and 11 July 2012 in Portland, USA. Knight focuses on post-processing of Lidar data with the Blue Marble Desktop and Global Mapper. The talk demonstrates the latest Lidar post-processing tools for coping with these challenges in the software. Both tools have powerful features for preparing data and analysing it, whether it be in transforming the elevations between geoid models, processing the high volumes of point cloud data into manageable chunks, or deriving terrain... Technology in Focus: Hydrographic Processing Software

In What Direction is Progress Headed?
Discussing and comparing software has often been tricky in Hydro International as it is difficult to put the packages together and see clear differences. In this overview of hydrographic processing software, we will highlight trends and movements as indicated by  the responses from software suppliers to our questions. In addition, we have added to this our own observations. All in all, this makes for interesting reading as there are movements in the industry that also tell us where the profession is headed. By Joost Boers, Hydro International, The Netherlands and Lars Kårlin, Data Processing manager, MMT, Sweden. Firstly, we would like to establish... (read more)

Automatic Hydroacoustic Data Processing for Fisheries

BioSonics, USA, has released VisAcq AutoTrack, a software module for researchers who use hydroacoustics for stock assessment of fisheries. VisAcq AutoTrack calculates the sampled volume and fish density by depth strata. At the conclusion of a mobile hydroacoustic survey, data processing is essentially completed and the user need only export track lists to a CSV file. VisAcq AutoTrack works with BioSonics’ Visual Acquisition as a real-time processing tool that automatically builds and records fish track lists. No further data processing or additional software is required to obtain usable information for fisheries management. Sorting the data from the generated track lists provides... (read more)
