Practical Survey Workshop Held in Uruguay

CARIS and Kongsberg recently teamed up to conduct a five-day joint acquisition and processing workshop with Servicio de Oceanografia, Hidrografia y Meteorologia de la Armada (SOHMA) in Montevideo, Uruguay. 35 attendees from hydrographic organisations and survey companies from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Peru, Uruguay, Venezuela, Ecuador and Panama participated in the workshop which included theoretical and practical sessions, site operations and hands-on exercises. The workshop consisted of presentations from Kongsberg on the EM 2040 multibeam and the SIS acquisition software. Multibeam and Interferometric Bathymetry System Support of SonarWiz

Chesapeake Technology (Canada) has added post-processing for multibeam echosounder and interferometric bathymetry systems to the SonarWiz software. SonarWiz now offers data processing for bathymetry file types of ALL, HSX, JSF, R2S, RDF, S7K, SXI, and XTF. SonarWiz Bathy reads the native data formats directly and gives the user all the tools required to view and edit the bathymetric data to produce high-resolution maps and reports. By integrating the processed bathymetry data with sidescan sonar data, 3D sidescan sonar mosaics can be generated giving a whole new visual dimension to seafloor data. SonarWiz Support for EdgeTech Real-time Bathymetry Systems

Chesapeake Technology (USA) has made further developments to its SonarWiz processing package with the addition of a real-time acquisition server for the EdgeTech 4600 and recently introduced EdgeTech 6205 interferometric bathymetry systems. SonarWiz can now capture and map real-time bathy data along with the sidescan data. It offers a simpler way to capture and visualise the data in real time. Manufacturing Agreement between Triton Imaging and Applied Acoustics

Triton Imaging, USA, and Applied Acoustic Engineering, UK, have signed a manufacturing agreement under which Applied Acoustics will offer Triton ISIS Offshore-SB data acquisition and Perspective-SB processing and interpretation software bundled with Applied Acoustic sub-bottom profiling hardware. Applied Acoustics’ customers will have the advantage of using the proven Triton topside software to obtain high-resolution seismic data from the Applied Acoustic sparker/boomer systems. Echoscope Discoveries During OI

CodaOctopus reports a good show during OI in London, UK, from 9th to 11th March. The latest Echoscope technology and the all-new Coda Seismic+ processing module attracted the most continuous attention on their stand throughout the week. Debris including crates, pipes, wheels and even an overturned car was seen at the bottom of Royal Victoria Dock, adjacent to ExCeL. Data were collected in real-time using the Echoscope system aboard the <i>Wessex Explorer</i> and did not need processing. Side Scan and Bathymetric Sonar System

L3 Klein's HydroChart 5000 side-scan bathymetric sonar system displays and processes of accurate bathymetry data integrated with high-resolution side-scan imagery, meeting IHO SP-44 Special Order Standards. Release of Coda Octopus Survey Engine Version 5

Coda Octopus has released Version 5 of Survey Engine, its sidescan and seismic processing, interpretation and reporting software package for geophysical surveys. This release is based upon extensive research and collaboration with geophysical service providers sharing their insight into what is needed.  Consequently, Version 5 features are geared towards improving the processing time (including for very large projects), hence reducing costs of such operations. CARIS 2017 will feature an in-depth technical programme, which will include high-calibre presentations from industry leaders and fellow CARIS users. The Dutch government is currently focusing on autonomous technologies. Autonomous cars can already be found on Dutch highways and now Rijkswaterstaat (The Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management) has also started to automate survey processes on rivers, together with the company Aquatic Drones. The use of autonomous vehicles creates new opportunities for traditional surveys. Equipped with hydrographic instruments, the vehicles can collect data remotely in increasing volumes, in challenging environments and with less risk to personnel.
