Canadian Hydrographic Service (CHS) recognises the need to improve its processes for data management and product creation to meet the high standards expected by the hydrographic community. From a task rationalisation perspective, CHS needs to reduce production steps, data manipulation and associated errors, and time spent on production process checks. Inland ENC Production

ECDIS has been standardised by the IHO in Special Publications No. 57 (S57) and No. 52 (S52) and is established in coastal and open sea areas. The S57 standard covers the data model of the chart, whereas S52 defines its presentation. These standards are well approved and thus changes and extensions must be handled carefully. Streamlined Gyro Compass Production Process

New manufacturing techniques and streamlined product design are enabling Teledyne TSS to deliver new gyro compasses in less than six weeks. Polar Duchess in Steady Production

The Norwegian seismic survey company Dolphin Geophysical has recently christened a new high-capacity 3D vessel, Polar Duchess. She entered into steady production for TGS in the Barents Sea on 14 April 2012. The six-month contract was announced previously. The vessel is chartered on an initial 3-year time-charter from Armada Seismic from 6 April 2012, and Dolphin has the option of further extending the charter with an additional 8 years. Harmonising the ­Production of ENCs

The International Centre for ENCs (IC-ENC)
The International Centre for ENCs (IC-ENC) was set up in 2002 with a remit to assist Hydrographic Offices in harmonising the production and distribution of high-quality ENCs. This is achieved through ENC validation and distribution processes, always with the mariner in mind. The recent launch of the IC-ENC ENC Validation training course formalises the provision of this knowledge and expertise to its members. Latest Version DNC Production System

CARIS has released version 3.2 of CARIS DOM (DIGEST Object Manager) for DNC (Digital Nautical Chart) production. CARIS DOM software is used for the production of DNC and Vmap1 (Vector Smart Map) nautical charts and also supports production of NATO Additional Military Layer (AML) products in VPF (Vector Product Format) format. Database Production for Polish Navy

The Hydrographic Office of the Polish Navy (HOPN) is making the move to a database-driven production solution with CARIS HPD. HPD will enable HOPN to update product-specific features and make customisations while maintaining the source data, providing efficiencies and ensuring improved standards of consistency. Quality ENC Production for HOs

The challenges facing the contractor
Hydrographic Offices (HOs) all over the world are going digital in their production environment. New shipboard equipment and improved display techniques embrace all the latest technologies in the interests of ensuring the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS). HOs increasingly seek to produce and distribute ENCs to standards specified in IHO Special Publication S57 (edition 3.1).
