Swathe Services has announced a bespoke custom Peli-case product which has been designed to fit the surface components of an R2Sonic Multi-Beam Echo-Sounder (MBES) SIM box and Inertial Navigation System. The product is specifically designed for use in open boats such as ABP Humber’s 5 metre RIB. The Peli-case incorporates all the required bulkhead connectors for external cable fittings; an inverter for operating off a DC battery power and a shrouded cooling system. Seabed Investigation on Wylfa Newydd Nuclear Power Station Site

Fugro has commenced marine site characterisation works for Horizon Nuclear Power at the proposed Wylfa Newydd power station site on the Isle of Anglesey, UK. The detailed works are carried out during July and August and will assist Horizon to gain a better understanding of the geological conditions offshore the proposed site. ASV Global Surpasses 1,000 Days of Unmanned Surface Vehicle Operations

ASV Global has reached the landmark of 1,000 days of unmanned operations. The milestone was reached during the Unmanned Warrior 2016 event which saw more than 50 unmanned vehicles operating in a variety of themed activities. The 1,000 days of unmanned operations cover a wide variety of applications that have been carried out by ASV Global platforms over the past six years. These applications include hydrography, oceanography, subsea positioning, mine countermeasures, ISTAR and naval gunnery training. The MRU and SRF Aligned (I)

With increasing accuracies of positioning and multi-beam systems, alignment of the motion reference unit (MRU) is becoming increasingly important. Although most (if not all) multi-beam surveyors use the patch-test to resolve the angular offsets between the multi-beam head and the MRU, this test does not give us the angular offsets between the MRU and the ship’s reference frame (SRF). Moroccan Gendarmerie Picks Falcon for Emergencies

For their search, rescue and recovery operations The Royal Moroccan Gendarmerie has chosen a Saab Seaeye Falcon ROV. They choose the Falcon as a small, yet powerful resource for rapid deployment from a small boat or RIB and which can accommodate an array of search and recovery systems. The Falcon will be deployed along Morocco’s 2,000km coastline and in the country’s many inland lakes. The 12th annual Seawork International exhibition and conference was up all round: 479 exhibitors - 10% up on last year; 7049 visitors - 8% up on last year and 789 overseas visitors - 11.2% up on last year. Overseas visitors showed a strong increase and were enhanced by naval attachés from South Africa, Nigeria, Ghana, Saudi Arabia, Mexico and Chile. Western Isles Connection Survey Operations Completed

Seabed survey contractor Bibby HydroMap completed geophysical, geotechnical, benthic and land survey operations along the route from mainland Scotland to the Isle of Lewis, UK, on behalf of client SHE Transmission. Three vessels were used during the survey; 27.5m DP1 Bibby Tethra for offshore geophysics, geotechnical sampling and benthic operations, 14m MV Proteus for nearshore geophysics and the 9m RIB Cougar to ensure overlap between the inshore and land survey.
