ROV Replaces Drop Cameras

FMC Technologies had a requirement to update and improve the visual inspection of subsea equipment within their test tank. Historically, a network of dropper cameras has been used to monitor the testing of equipment. The biggest problem that FMC testers had was differentiating between leaks and air pockets, because dropper cameras could not get in close enough and were extremely difficult to manipulate. An AC-ROV solves this dilemma.   This and the fact that many areas could not be accessed with a dropper camera caused major testing delays. A solution was required to overcome these problems. FMC decided to go... (read more)

Stats Purchase AC-ROV

Specialist engineering group Stats have initially purchased one AC-ROV underwater inspection system for use on their various pipeline integrity projects. The company were actively searching for a genuinely work capable micro submersible. Sighting the systems size (critical to Stats applications), versatility, manoeuverability, and durability, the AC-ROV is for Stats a genuine micro 'work class' ROV that allows serious inspections of confined underwater areas. A convenient detail was found in the fact that the AC-ROV is manufactured in Aberdeen, Scotland, just a few miles from Stat's HQ. (read more)

ROV Assists Environmental Groups

A coalition of environmental groups from New York and New Jersey are using Fishers SeaOtter ROV to gather evidence on the state of the marine environment in the area’s coastal waters. \"One of our main concerns is the use of contaminated material to fill holes in the bottom of New York harbour that were created by previous dredging operations\", says spokesman Frank Crescitelli. Another concern is the dredging operations that remove contaminated material from the bottom of the harbour. These types of operations put contaminants back into the water which can then spread throughout the entire marine ecosystem. Frank operates... (read more)

DeepWorks ROV Tooling Simulation

Fugro Subsea Services is rolling out enhanced tooling capabilities on its DeepWorks simulators. Improvements have been made to ROV manipulator deployed tools to provide easier access verification as well as more realistic deployment behaviours. DeepWorks 2013 introduces a novel approach to simplify accessibility studies. As well as supporting the traditional approach using a Schilling T4 master arm, a new method has been introduced in DeepWorks Engineer to enable engineers who do not have specific ROV piloting skills or access to a master arm controller to precisely control manipulator tools. The tool tip is driven manually from a suitable input device... (read more)
