Seabed Geosolutions Mobilises Ocean Bottom Node Survey

Seabed Geosolutions has been awarded a 4D baseline ocean bottom node project in West Africa, with a duration of six weeks. The crew is currently in the mobilisation phase of the project. The bottom node survey project will support the optimisation of the recovery rate during the development and production phases of oil and gas fields, by providing high quality data on hydrocarbon prospects, reservoir characteristics and potential geohazards. The project positions the company well to respond to other potential projects in the region.   (read more)

Marine Mammal Monitoring Equipment Undergoes Sub-sea Testing

The Balmoral Subsea Test Centre in Aberdeen, Scotland has carried out hydrostatic tests on equipment that will be used to monitor the interaction between tidal turbines and marine mammals in the Pentland Firth. The linear actuators that were tested form part of a marine mammal monitoring station anchored to the seafloor. Utilizing both passive- and active-acoustic tracking techniques, the station will collect data on the underwater movements of marine mammals around operating tidal turbines. This data will be used by the tidal energy industry and regulatory authorities to make informed decisions about marine mammal collision risk for tidal energy developments.... (read more)

TSMAD Technical Sub Working Group Meeting in Germany

Earlier this year, SevenCs hosted the IHO/Transfer Standard Maintenance and Applications Development (TSMAD) technical sub working group at its office in Hamburg, Germany. Two key aspects that were discussed during the meeting have seen successful further development with fruitful results for a new portrayal concept and the GML (Geographic Marking Language) interoperability. S-100 is based on ISO standards, and GML encapsulation is one of those standards. The upcoming new standard for digital hydrographic information, including navigational charts, is under the umbrella of the IHO and various working groups are actively preparing the official plenary voting during the next meeting at... Minor UK Tsunami After Massive sub-Atlantic Slide

A minor tsunami occurred in the last week of June 2011 along the south coast of the United Kingdom. A network of coastal tidal and wave monitoring stations maintained by Southampton-based EMU Limited recorded the progress of the waves beleived to have been caused by a massive underwater landslide in the Atlantic, 200 hundred miles off the Cornish coast. Waves of between 0.5 and 0.8 metres resulted in abnormal tidal records at the Channel Coastal Observatory and Plymouth Coastal Station shore stations. A massive underwater landslide in the Atlantic 200 miles off the Cornish coast is believed to be the... (read more)
