RIEGL USA is to host the RIEGL International Airborne and Mobile User Conference from 28th February to 1st March 2012 in Orlando, USA, at the Hilton Orlando. RIEGL LiDAR 2015: Abstracts Sought

The RIEGL LiDAR 2015 user conference will be held from 5-7 May 2015 in Hong Kong and Thursday 7-8 May in Guangzhou (Canton), China. RIEGL is putting together the agenda for RIEGL LiDAR 2015, proving the broad usage of RIEGL Lidar equipment in applications such as airborne scanning, bathymetry, UAV scanning and more. High-resolution Bathymetric Lidar from Slow-flying Aircraft
Airborne bathymetric Lidar is an ideal tool to study underwater features in the usually rather clear waters along the coast of Australia. Due to the remoteness of many of the continent’s coastlines, this is often the only economically viable option for large-scale bathymetric mapping at high resolution. Coastal Mapping During Lidar Conference

Award for Hydrographic Lidar Scanner

On 15 May 2013, RIEGL won the Geospatial World Award in the category Geospatial Technology Innovation Surveying at the Geospatial World Forum Conference in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, for the RIEGL VQ-820-G. According to RIEGL, the device is the first ‘tightly coupled’, shallow water, land and smart echo waveform Lidar sensor. With sea level rise and increases in the severity of extreme natural events, there has been a renewed push to further our understanding of the coastal zone. Fundamental to understanding risk in areas of high vulnerability is capturing the near-shore land and sea surface. LIDAR Bathymetry in Norwegian Waters

The Norwegian Hydrographic Service (NHS) has and will be utilising airborne LIDAR bathymetry in connection with the ongoing effort to modernise the maritime infrastructure along the Norwegian coast. This article describes the benefits and limitations of the technology, the results of a pilot project conducted in Norwegian waters in 1998 and operational data collection in Norway in 2002. Acquiring and Integrating Bathymetric Lidar

Developing a Seamless Coastal DEM from Topographic and Bathymetric LiDAR Data
We investigated the most significant issues affecting the creation of a littoral zone digital elevation model from overlapping bathymetric and topographic Lidar (light detection and ranging) data. The main challenge was found to be the use of different methodologies used to establish vertical datums, as well as the narrow overlap between the two data sets, lack of ground control points and data gaps. We identified the main causes of gaps in bathymetric Lidar data and outline a new procedure for quantifying their occurrence. Commercial Acceptance of Floating LiDAR

AXYS Technologies (Canada) has recently completed another two successful validation campaigns for its FLiDAR 6M wind assessment platform. This latest achievement marks the 9th and 10th independently reviewed offshore validations undertaken by AXYS to advance the commercial acceptance of its FLiDAR technology for offshore wind resource assessment in support of project financing. These campaigns took place at FINO 1 in the North Sea and at West of Duddon Sands in the Irish Sea, adding 11 more months of validation data to AXYS’ body of evidence for commercial acceptance.
