TECHAWI, the Training and Education Centre Hydrography at the Alfred Wegener Institute, Bremerhaven, Germany, provides hydrographic education and vocational training. TECHAWI offers customised training and lectures in Hydrography. Training activities range from one-day introduction and refresher courses to advanced hydrography training on selected topics over the course of several days and include high-tech curricula for operations and surveyors. REMUS 100 for Norwegian University of Technology and Science

The Norwegian University of Technology and Science (NTNU) has purchased one REMUS 100 system to support and enhance the operations of the University’s Applied Underwater Robotics Laboratory (AUR Lab). Marine Science Laboratory Opens

The University of Southern Mississippi has dedicated the new George A. Knauer Marine Science Building at the Stennis Space Center. The building features multimedia-enhanced classrooms and specially designed laboratories for the pursuit of education and research in biological, geological, and physical oceanography, marine chemistry and hydrography. The new facility also owns the distinction of being the first building constructed solely for higher education at the space centre. KAUST Purchases Hydroid AUV

Hydroid, USA, has delivered a REMUS 100 AUV to Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah University of Science & Technology (KAUST). The REMUS AUV was procured by Naizak Global Engineering Services, KAUST’s purchasing agent and Unique Group, Hydroid’s representative in Saudi Arabia. KAUST will use the REMUS 100 AUV for marine ecology and geology research and education in the Red Sea. Simrad Navigation for Song of The Whale

Simrad, UK, has supplied a complete navigation suite for the new Song of the Whale research vessel, which embarked on sea trials off the coast of Southampton last week. Owned by the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW), Song of the Whale replaces the eponymous original vessel, which has been in service since 1987 and has voyaged over 250,000 miles. New ERS for Kalmar Maritime Academy

The Kalmar Maritime Academy, a well-established maritime training centre on Sweden's east coast, took delivery of its latest engine room simulator (ERS) from Kongsberg Maritime at the end of September 2009. This follows the development of simulators for the recently opened Transatlantic Ice Academy in Kalmar, as part of a joint venture between Kalmar and ship owner Transatlantic. A one-of-a-kind educational programme that enables professional mariners in the offshore sector to study for a degree even when they are in the middle of the ocean has won a Times Higher Education (THE) national award for Plymouth University, UK.
