UK Energy Secretary Travels to Orkney

Edward Davey, the UK's Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, travelled to Orkney in October 2012. During his two-day trip, the Lib-Dem Minister saw Scotrenewables Tidal Power Ltd’s SR250 floating tidal turbine, prior to meeting with representatives from the European Marine Energy Centre and Orkney Islands Council. The Minister visited the Lyness marine renewables port to view the wave energy converters based there, and witness the investment that has gone into the ports infrastructure in order to support the marine renewables sector in Orkney. The Marine Geospatial Data Industry seminar held at the UKHO at beginning of July attracted representatives from government departments and agencies, academia and from the commercial sector. Online Access to Marine Geological and Geophysical Data Sets

Geo-Seas is an EU FP7 project, implementing an e-infrastructure of 26 marine geological and geophysical data centres, located in seventeen European maritime countries. Users will be able to identify, locate and access harmonised marine geological and geophysical data sets and derived data products held by the data centres through a single common data portal. Noordhoek Expands ROV Fleet

Noordhoek Offshore has ordered 2 new Sub-Atlantic Mohican ROVs and 3 new Seaeye Falcon ROVs. The decision to order new ROVs is another step within the growth strategy of Noordhoek, which already has two new vessels under construction; a DPII Saturation Diving Support Vessel for delivery Q4 2009 and a dedicated DPII ROV Survey Vessel for delivery Q1 2010.     This order continues Noordhoek´s fleet rejuvenation programme and adds 5 units to Noordhoek's ROV fleet, operating mainly in the inspection, repair and maintenance (IRM) market. 2D Infill Seismic Survey for Geoscience Australia

The Duke, owned and operated by Gardline CGG Pte Ltd, Australia, has been selected by Geoscience Australia to acquire the Gippsland 2D Infill marine seismic survey offshore Victoria (Australia). Preparation for the project is underway and the expected start date is 6 April 2015. The Gippsland 2D Infill survey is part of the National CO2 Infrastructure Plan to aid in the identification of potential sites suitable for the long term storage of CO2 in Australia.
