Simrad has launched two sophisticated new satellite communication systems based on the Inmarsat Fleet satellite platform. The MS33 and MS55 are designed to offer voice and data services for leisure and professional vessels with internet, email, fax and telephone functionality providing a total communications solution. The MS33 features an Integrated Data Service that can connect at speeds up to 9.6kbps for voice, fax and batched transmissions. Dr. Simons Part-time Professor ‘Seafloor Mapping’ at Delft University of Technology

The Executive Board of Delft University of Technology (DUT) has appointed Dr. Dick G. Simons as professor of the new chair ‘Seafloor Mapping’. A co-operation of DUT with TNO Physics and Electronics Laboratory (TNO-FEL) in The Hague has enabled the establishment of the chair. New Parametric Sounder from Atlas Hydrographic

Atlas Hydrographic has introduced a new parametric multibeam sub-bottom profiling system, Parasound DS-3. The highest performance parametric system of its type presently available, it provides very precise high-resolution sub-bottom and water column data from 10m to full-ocean depth. Parasound DS-3 is capable of sediment penetration in excess of 200m while sampling data at up to 50 kHz frequency at all depths down to 10,000m. Yellowstone River Channel and Floodplain Project for Merrick & Company

Merrick & Company has been awarded the Precision Topographic and Bathymetric Mapping project for the Yellowstone River Conservation District Council. Merrick will provide GPS and bathymetric surveys, LIDAR data acquisition, one-meter contours, half-meter bathymetric contours, planimetric feature and breakline mapping, color aerial photography, and color digital orthophotography with a 30-centimeter pixel resolution. Data will be delivered in formats compatible with ESRI and Intergraph geographic information system software. Gardline Hydro prepares to undertake its second two-year contract under the Civil Hydrography Programme (CHP) on behalf of its client, the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA). The offshore Scotland contract comprises two areas: one in the Eastern approaches to the Firth of Forth: the second between Cape Wrath and the Fair Isle Channel, to the West of the Orkney Islands.
