Simrad Acquires Bennex Holland BV

In July 2003 Simrad purchased the company Bennex Holland BV, for many years distributor for Simrad products in the Benelux region. Wil van Druten, the companyÕs owner wished to retire and so it was natural for Simrad to acquire the company. Bennex Holland BV has changed name to Simrad BV, as from September 2003. Willem Koopmans assumes the position of General Manager as from 21st August 2003, with a staff of 22. Simrad expects the acquisition further to strengthen its profile and market position in the Benelux region. (read more)

Hydro Projects Acquires Geonav

Hydro Projects Group Ltd has acquired Geonav LLC of Houston, Texas and Geonav Ltd. of Aberdeen, Scotland in their entirety. The transaction in cash and shares was completed on 20th August 2003. Hydro Projects warmly welcome ex-Geonav President Russell Morton to the board of Directors of the Norwich, UK and Houston, USA-based group. Mr Morton’s new position will be Director of Wizardry, based at their existing offices in Texas. (read more)

Seamap New Appointments

Rich Schiffman has been appointed President of Seamap, Inc. in Houston, Texas. Having previously worked in senior management positions for a number of companies, including Sercel, Inc. and JDR Cable Systems, Schiffman has over thirty years experience in the seismic and survey industries. He is tasked with further developing Seamap’s sales and support in the Americas. Craig Douglas has been promoted to Vice-President Technology at Seamap Pte Ltd in Singapore. Douglas, who was formerly with Western Geco, has for the past two and a half years been leading the development of the Seamap Passive Acoustic Monitoring System. (read more)

AAE Transponder Sales 2003

Applied Acoustics have just delivered an order for seventy Mini and Midi Transponders to one Aberdeen-based client, in addition to a number of other high-volume positioning and release transponder orders from clients in both Northern Europe and North America. All orders also contained significant numbers of AAE PAM Tester/Chargers and Smart Chargers. CEFAS, Global Marine System, Subsea7 and the AAE US Distributor Subsea Technologies Inc. are some of the organisations who have procured significant numbers of AAE 900 Series Transponders and Acoustic Releases during the first half of 2003. New Thales Malaysian Jv

Thales GeoSolutions Sdn. Bhd. has formed a new joint venture with a Bumiputera company servicing the petroleum industry in Malaysia, Orogenic Holdings Sdn. Bhd. The new joint venture will trade under the name Orogenic Thales GeoSolutions Sdn. Bhd. Established in January 2003, the company employs 33 staff, of which 80 per cent are field specialists. The new joint venture was awarded its Petronas Licence in April and purchased an array of positioning and surveying equipment, including a Thales workclass Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) in order to meet its expanding business demands. Klaipeda Seaport Takes ELAC Multibeam

ELAC Nautik has recently delivered and successfully integrated a complete hydrographic solution, S/V VARUNA, to Klaipeda State Seaport Authority (KSSA). KSSA now operates two shallow water systems SEA BEAM 1185. The system is designed for both high-accuracy harbour and near shore surveys and offers the newest Coastal Oceanographics software solution with high precision Aquarius DGPS/ RTK positioning system and MAHRS motion sensor/ gyrocompass. CodaOctopus F180 for University of New Brunswick

CodaOctopus has sold an Octopus F180 Inertial Attitude and Positioning System to the Ocean Mapping Group at the University of New Brunswick (UNB). This internationally recognised centre for multibeam excellence will benefit from the latest in GPS aided INS technology as the F180 enables them to collect reliable and accurate heave, roll, pith, heading and position data in all survey dynamics for both research and educational purposes. ECA Project Leader ‘HALIODSTAR’

ECA is to develop the AUV (Autonomous Underwater Vehicle) ALISTAR 3000 for the ultra-deep operating offshore industry in the context of a programme called ‘HALIODSTAR’. The project is being carried out by members of the consortium called ‘HALIOD’, which gathers together experienced businesses, scientific institutions and specialised schools, all situated around the harbour of Brest, France’s research pole in marine science.
