Reflectorless Total Station Series

Nikon-Trimble has introduced today the NPR-302 Series of Nikon Total Stations - high precision, long-range reflectorless mechanical total stations with laser pointers. Each new model in the series offers Nikon optics.   The Nikon NPR-302 Series offers three models, the Nikon NPR-362, NPR-352 and NPR-332 and features 3" and 5" angle accuracy models. The Nikon NPR-302 Series offers a distance measurement accuracy of up to ±(2 + 2 ppm x D) mm. The Nikon total stations use a patented technology to providing long distance reflectorless measurement range of up to 300 metres. In addition, the reflectorless technology eliminates the need... Use of Total Station with HyDrone Demonstrated

Leica (Switzerland) recently introduced the latest version of its TS16 robotic total station together with its accompanying VIVA controller and tracking software. SCCS demonstrated this system, tracking the HyDrone remote control vessel (RCV) and HydroLite echosounder combination at a recent event on a lake near its head office in Cambridgeshire, UK. The HyDrone system is a remote radio controlled survey platform suitable for hydrographic surveys when combined with the HydroLite portable echosounder and a positioning system. Ruggedly constructed, the HyDrone and frame are made from high-quality marine components offering a lightweight stable platform based on its twin hull catamaran design. The... (read more)

Bathymetric Survey Vessel Tracked with Total Station

To increase public interest and involvement in protecting and improving the Ribble River, which runs through North Yorkshire and Lancashire in northern England, the Ribble Rivers Trust recently commissioned a bathymetry survey of a notable section of the riverbed. A robotically controlled 1.2-metre twin-hull shallow draft vessel powered by a twin jet system was used to survey approximately one hectare of the riverbed. Aboard the vessel was a depth-recording sonar and a tracking prism that enabled a Spectra Precision FOCUS 35 total station to lock onto and robotically follow and record the location of the vessel.  Echo soundings from the sonar... Pile Installation Support from ‘Total Controller' and 'Total Viewer’

The Acclaimed Software Company, UK, has launched a software system designed for Harkand Andrews Survey to support pile installation operations. The ‘Total Controller’ and ‘Total Viewer’ systems have been successfully put into operation on a construction support vessel conducting precise pile installations. Harkand Andrews Survey have developed a technique for installing monopiles and transition pieces in offshore wind farms which allow observations to be collected remotely. This removes the necessity for a surveyor to physically access the pile for measurements during piling operations and therefore reduces risk to survey personnel. By utilising remote observations it is possible to achieve higher... (read more)

Trimble VX Spatial Station

Trimble has introduced the VX Spatial Station, a positioning system that combines optical, 3D scanning and video capabilities to measure objects in 3D to produce 2D and 3D data sets for spatial imaging projects. The Trimble VX Spatial Station enables users to blend accurate ground-based information with airborne data to provide comprehensive datasets for use in the geospatial information industry. With recent advances in the geospatial information industry, more opportunities and applications for spatial imaging data are being identified for industries such as transport and civil engineering, utilities and communications, natural resources management, government and military. Many of these applications... (read more)

Double Contract for Total Indonesia

Metocean Services International Pty Ltd (MSI) has secured two contracts for Total Indonesia (Total) through its Indonesia partners, PT Pageo Utama (Pageo). The first project is a 12 month Metocean campaign offshore of Mahakam Delta, to the north of Balikpapan, in the Makassar Strait where waves, directional currents, water depths, water levels, sea temperature and conductivity will be measured at 5 locations over the course of the year.   Meteorological data will also be observed at a shore station established at Pageo's base in Handil. The data collected will provide Total Indonesia with a reliable metocean database with which to... (read more)

ROV Mid-water Station Keeping

An affordable and functional solution for Mid-water Station Keeping (MWSK) has been on the wish list of most ROV operators and manufacturers for some time now; the huge benefits in terms of operational efficiency and the future potential for pre-planned automated missions has made it a case of when, not if.      Against this backdrop and at the request of C-Innovation,CDL and Schilling Robotics engineers started work on a collaborative solutionover twelve months ago, the results of that effort were demonstrated in Marchin the Gulf of Mexico following an extensive period of Factory Acceptance Tests.   Traditional ROV station... Permanent Tide Station for Dubai

Unique System FZE, a Unique Maritime Group Company, UAE, together with the Geodesy and Hydrographic Survey Section of Dubai Municipality has established a permanent tidal station at Al Mamzaar. The purpose of the project is to collect precise tide data continuously for a period of 19 years to calculate mean sea level and annual sea-level rise and to provide precise tide and tide-related meteorological data to various users, as well as to define and update a precise vertical datum for Dubai Emirate. Dubai Municipality’s Geodesy and Hydrographic Survey Section has several components comprising various sub-systems that provide real-time monitoring, alerts,... (read more)

ROV Survey UK Power Station

Subsea Vision Ltd has recently completed a comprehensive ROV survey at First Hydro Company, part of Edison Mission Energy at Dinorwig Power Station, North Wales. The complex close to the foot of Snowdon Mountain includes an upper reservoir Marchlyn Mawr, and a lower reservoir Llyn Peris. Water falling from the upper reservoir at 600m head drives six turbine generators via 16km of underground tunnels, supplying the national grid with a combined output of up to 1728MW of electricity. The water is then discharged into the lower reservoir. Using off-peak electricity, the six units are reversed to pump water back to... (read more)
