5th Sea Tech Week

Brest’s urban community council, Brest métropole océane, is organising the 5th Sea Tech
Week from 16 to 19 October, 2006, bringing together scientists and professionals from the
maritime technology sector.
The organisers are presenting a lecture programme of a very high standard on specialised
subjects such as maritime safety and security, ship-building engineering, maintenance and
services, exploitation of marine energy resources, exploitation and development of marine
biological resources, the environment and coastal management.
Highly technical topics are tackled such as AUVs (autonomous underwater vehicles) which
are the subject of a workshop organised jointly by Oceans Europe and IXSEA with the support of the IEEE/OES (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers/Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs). Economic issues are also dealt with as for example in the lecture on “The European Union and the sea: towards a European Union maritime policy”, organised by the CEDEM ((Centre for maritime law and economics) and the CEDRE (European research centre).
