All Weather Video (AWVR) for British Waterways

British Waterways have recently purchased an All Weather Video Recorder (AWVR) - built by Ilex Technical Services - to assist with their waterways management role, this complements their river and canal scanning systems providing flood plain information and geo-referenced video images.
The system has been designed for harsh environments and can be used in rain, snow etc. or for small boat operation where water ingress can be an issue. The unit is built to IP67 standard and provides input and power for a drop-down or diver helmet camera, it also provides a variable 0-24vDC supply for underwater lighting. The unit is supplied with a GPS receiver, the Latitude, Longitude, Date and Time are extracted from the GPS message and overlaid on the video to provide accurate position and time. There is also a video typewriter facility to allow segments of video to be titled in the field.
British Waterways will utilise the unit during inspection and survey work on rivers and canals to record up to 30 hours of continuous video running off 12vDC from the survey launch.
