Altimeter Redesign

OceanTools has presented a redesigned altimeter. DSP electronics combined with frequency-swept CHIRP technology are housed in a robust, hard-anodised aluminium housing rated to 3,000m as standard. The MA500D utilises a new composite transducer array enabling altitude measurement with millimetric accuracy and resolution.

The MA500 may be used in a wide range of harsh-environment altitude-measuring applications such as assisting the safe navigation of subsea vehicles, deployment of structures to the seabed and the monitoring and measurement of sediment and ice. Up to 16 altimeters may be connected on a single twisted pair to enable the deployment of large seabed structures and multi point monitoring of large areas of interest and hazardous environments.

Up to 3 MA500s can be controlled via operator display interface, with each individual altimeter’s output colour-coded for easy and accurate viewing.  Outputs are viewed via multiple graphs or one single graph, with user-definable sound velocity, units of measurement and a maximum altitude range up to 30m.

The MA500 has various output formats including RS232, RS485, analogue and NMEA-0183 Altitude, and all outputs can be logged and replayed as required.
