AMSI Welcomes New Members

The Association of Marine Scientific Industries (AMSI) is testament to the outstanding success of Ocean Business 2007, with numerous new members signing up for the many cash and business benefits offered by the UK trade body for oceanology. AMSI welcomed its respected new members as leading organisations in the oceanographic sector. Amongst the list are: All Ocean Engineering, Gill Instruments, GMT Titanium, PDM Neptec, Quest Geo Solutions, RS Aqua and RUCO.

As a key player in the oceanology industry, AMSI partnered with show organisers, Intelligent Exhibitions Ltd, and was able to offer exhibiting members savings at what has been described as ‘one of the best exhibitions’ in the business by Andy Smerdon of Aquatec Group. AMSI members were delighted by the quality of visitors and the value of the demonstration sessions in particular, engaging with existing and potential customers.

Mr. Smerdon said, ‘The Ocean Business demonstration sessions were a great opportunity to showcase our suspended sediment measurement equipment and generated some strong enquiries which will keep us busy over the coming months.’

Adam Joliffe, Sales Engineer at OSIL, also a member of AMSI, provided equally positive feedback explaining, “Ocean Business 2007 provided excellent coverage of our sector, in particular the contact with end-users of oceanographic instruments and systems. This resulted in a substantial number of sales enquiries for OSIL products and services.”

Members also enjoyed exclusive access to NERC scientists in a special forum to discuss future scientific developments later this year and provide a unique two-way transfer of knowledge between NERC scientists and industry partners.

New members can expect the same again next year, but much more in the meantime. In the coming months, both new and current members will participate in the deliberations of the Parliamentary Scientific Committee and the Marine Information Alliance, influencing the political and strategic development of the industry. The association also offers an invaluable platform to present its members’ products and services to a wider audience. If companies are looking to build an international presence, opportunities are regularly generated through a sophisticated product search on the Society’s web site. There is also a very real, current and growing need to resolve issues with government departments and their agencies. Networking and forming alliances with like-minded companies has also proved extremely fruitful for AMSI members. Regular seminars and events help to forge relationships, often resulting in collaborative research or product development.

John Murray, Chief Executive of the Society of Maritime Industries, of which AMSI is a constituent association, commented, ‘As the trade body for the sector, AMSI is very pleased to welcome these companies into membership and judging by the conversations I had over the three days we are to be joined by yet more.’ AMSI has extended the special show offer for companies who missed out during the event.
