Australian Underwater Electronics Company Focuses on Hydrographic Market

UVS, an underwater electronics specialist from Australia, has strengthened its commitment to the hydrographic survey market through a number of recent initiatives. Mark Hegarty has joined the team to head the company’s hydrographic survey sales and service.

Following 23 years in the Royal Australian Navy as a hydrographic surveyor, Mark spent another eight years in the industry, managing support of hydrographic and navigation equipment installed in hydrographic ships operated by the Australian navy.

The company has been appointed as distributor for Teledyne Odom and Mark Hegarty has attended a training in Baton Rouge where the manufacturer of the MB-1 multi beam echosounder has its facilities to obtain hands-on experience with this equipment.

Distributor for Teledyne Reson
UVS has also been appointed a distributor in Australia for Teledyne Reson (Denmark) to offer the full range of Teledyne Reson products from its offices in Newcastle, Melbourne and Perth.

UVS engineering staff had been trained by Teledyne Reson at Slangerup in the theory and practice of sonar operations to improve the level of service for Teledyne Reson that can be offered by UVS.

The training included sonar concept; hands-on training on PDS2000 software; PDS2000 set-up, operation and processing; shallow water and deep water operations. Service training included in-depth knowledge and practice on sonar processor, enabling UVS to be certified as a RESON Service Partner.

Australian ADCPS Conference
Both Teledyne RESON and Teledyne Odom will demonstrate Multi Beam Echo Sounder (MBES) products at ADCPs in Action in Australia at the Gold Coast from 9 to 11 September 2014. Mark said that the formation of the Teledyne Marine Acoustic Imaging Group comprising Teledyne RESON, Odom Hydrographic and BlueView provided a unique capability to offer MBES products that met user needs in a number of application areas.  During ADCPs in Action delegates will be able to compare the Teledyne RESON SeaBat T20-P (Portable) directly with the Teledyne Odom MB1 which will be operated simultaneously from the same boat.

Partnering with Survey Equipment Services
As the exclusive rental agent in Australia and region Survey Equipment Services, UVS provides Survey Equipment Services’ full rental equipment range including surface and subsea positioning equipment, hydrographic and geophysical Equipment, ROV sensors and more.

Mark Hegarty said that the SES rental equipment range included many items of equipment that were in demand for survey applications in Australia.

Teledyne BlueView products are backed by the technical knowledge of UVS engineering and technical staff which has been developed through factory training at Teledyne BlueView  in Seattle. Training included 2D and 3D sonar, focusing on theory of operation, interpreting images and control of viewer software.

Operations including actual dockside deployment and review of captured data ensured that the classroom theory was transferred to the field.
