BIRNS launches new high-amperage connector series

BIRNS made a significant impact at Oceanology International 2024 during the company’s Power Forward event, marking the celebration of its 70th anniversary and the unveiling of the all-new high-amperage subsea connector series, the 225 Amp BIRNS Meridian line.

With great power comes great responsibility, and this robust, custom-engineered dry-mate connector series is open-face rated to 6km, making it ideal for battery packs and thrusters for crewed and uncrewed subsea vehicles requiring high-amperage power transfer. Select sizes are already undergoing DNV type approval for 6km-rated crewed submersibles. Compact in design, BIRNS Meridians offer several pin configurations, with more designs set for release later this year. The M40 pin configuration boasts a single 85mm2/3-000 contact. Both standard and reverse gender versions are included in the series, all capable of withstanding reverse pressure and installation into both dry and oil-filled canisters.

The new connector line incorporates a range of exclusive design features to enhance ease of use and mating, including a tactile alignment index ridge and arrows indicating the primary key position. Additionally, the receptacles feature a blue colour band on the shell, providing users with a clear visual indicator that a connector pair has been fully mated.
