Business Development Appointment

Doug Bennett has joined SOSI as senior vice president of Business Development. Mr. Bennett brings over 30 years of sales, marketing and management experience, with an extensive background in technical sales, application engineering, and physical and biogeochemical oceanographic measurement applications.

At SOSI he will be responsible for strategic planning and global business development focused on ocean observing systems and related products and services. Doug says his transition from Sea-Bird to SOSI feels quite natural. He said, "I have dedicated my career to serving ocean scientists and supporting the vital work of understanding oceanographic processes, and preserving, protecting and wisely managing our oceanic resources. My new position at SOSI allows me to continue in that regard, while applying my experience to help SOSI become a global leader in providing high quality ocean observing systems."

Prior to joining the SOSI Team, Mr. Bennett headed the sales and marketing efforts of Sea-Bird Electronics, Inc. in Bellevue, Washington from 1990 until April 2010, and worked for RD Instruments as a sales engineer for 4 years prior to joining Sea-Bird.

Earlier career experience includes sales and operations management in electronic component distribution, manufacturer's representation, and production planning and control in electronic equipment manufacturing. Mr. Bennett is a member of the American Geophysical Union, Seattle Chapter of the Marine Technology Society (MTS), and served in the US Navy in ASW sonar operations and search and rescue.
