Charting the Deep
The Indian National Hydrographic Office, Dehradun has recently published a hardbound book in an attractive format that elucidates the 300 years history of the Indian Naval Hydrographic Department.
‘Charting the Deep’ travels through time, through diaries and journals, and formal annual reports. Having selected the date of Thornton’s appointment, in 1703, as the formal beginning, the department celebrates its 300th anniversary, delving into its part and sharing its stories, accomplishments and setbacks, fond memories and anecdotes interspersed with serious cartographic analysis.
The book is written by Dr. Manoshi Bhattacharya, a physician who began her career with the Indian Navy.
