Class B Hydrographic Course Terminates
The second Hydrographic Surveyor Class "B" course is almost coming to an end at STC in Rotterdam (The Netherlands). According to Skilltrade, ten students did register for the course from the following countries: The Netherlands, England, Kazachstan, India and Trinidad & Tobago. The students did start with the second module, covering all the basic competencies, as laid out by the IHO, like Mathematics, Physics, ICT and Nautical Science.
Late September 2008, the students started with the third module 3, which covers all the essential subjects as laid out by the IHO. Bathymetry, Tides, Positioning, Hydrographic data, Environment etc. This course we have the pleasure of introducing a couple of new lectures, first and foremost Mr. Aad van Dam and Sicco Kamminga who lecturers on waves and currents. For fieldwork and hands-on exercises, Van Oord invited the class to participate in a dredging project in IJmuiden, covering subjects like: multi-beam, landsurvey and a visit to an operational cutter dredger. Other workshops included Reson's new 7000 series multi-beam sensor and the Port of Rotterdam's brand new survey vessels.
Skilltrade started their first "Survey Engineer" course (to IMCA guide lines) in Rotterdam, which was concluded with hands-on training onboard a survey vessel, installing, interfacing and testing equipment supplied by Seatronics and Allseas Engineering.
The next IHO Class B Hydrographic survey course will start on the 14th January 2008 at the STC in Rotterdam.
