DPS Buys First Sonardyne Fusion Wideband System

Dynamic Positioning Services (DPS) of Aberdeen have bought the first Fusion Positioning system with wideband signal technology from Sonardyne International. This £320,000 order is significant for both companies as it represents a milestone in the provision of advanced subsea positioning for the offshore market. Sonardyne wideband technology is key to offshore subsea positioning, offering hundreds of reply codes and fast telemetry. The system will give an enhanced and robust subsea position solution. Sonardyne’s wideband signals are proven to give impressive noise immunity and can operate in parallel with other acoustic systems. They offer greater precision, and continue to offer this in harsh and complex acoustic environments.
DPS’s order consists of 20 Compatt 5 transponders incorporating high accuracy depth and inclination sensors and a Fusion topside control unit with embedded Pharos Construction software. Wideband also integrates ranging and fast telemetry from the subsea sensors.
DPS and Sonardyne believe that this new system will provide operators with an efficient solution for all subsea positioning applications.
