Dr Cairns Receives Award

Ormond Beach physicist Dr James L. Cairns is this year’s recipient of the Marine Technology Society’s Compass Distinguished Achievement Award. Established in 1966, this Award is given annually to one person in recognition of significant outstanding contributions in the fields of Oceanography and Marine Technology. The Society is a world-wide professional organisation with members from all marine sectors encompassing pure research, commercial industries, ocean policy makers and the military. Dr Cairns was cited for career contributions in teaching, oceanographic research, and marine technology. The Award was presented on September 27th as part of the OCEANS 2003 Conference in San Diego, California.
